Hello all,

We're in the process of having our living/dining room replastered and once this is done and the paint is on all the new "toys" (plasma, etc) will be ordered.

However my wife and I are in "discussion" about the room layout and the 3 images below represent our thoughts so far.

Currently the room is very similar to layout 3 but my wife really likes layout 1 and whilst it would be great when friends and family are over I would imagine that viewing the screen might be straining. Also I assume that the 5.1 setup will be difficult as only one sofa would have the sweet spot.

Basically we are looking for advice from anyone who can help but especially if you have a similar layout to number 1.

Ok folks theres been a few viewers but no replies so what am I doing wrong?!

Is this in the right section - if not where should it be?

I've used the search function to look for similar situations but cannot see any that use a "galley" layout (for want of a better description) like that of the first image.

Would appreciate any help!

I'm no expert, but I think it would be a mistake to have the TV in front on a window, unless you're going to close the blinds/curtains every time you want to watch it. I'd go with option 3, makes the speaker placement easier and you wouldn't have to twist your neck to see the screen. Nice pictures by the way, what software did you use?

3 for me too ... i would def not put a tv in front of a window

Many thanks for the posts everyone and it looks like we'll be keeping the room pretty much the same then!

I've used a program called roomarranger which allows you to create the floorplan in 2D and then generate a VRML file so you can move about the 3D space in a web browser.

The program didn't make the images though as these are a composite of screengrabs.

I can understand why your wife has chosen option 1 as this is a brilliant set up if entertaining or chatting to your partner as sofas are directly opposite each other, however the angle for sitting and watching tv would be uncomfortable on the neck unless you had a sofa to yourself and got sprawled out on it. Also the glare from the window. Stick to option 3 if you watch a lot of telly and if you added a home cinema system you could place a speaker at each side of tv and the other two each side of the sofa on the rear wall, as this would be your best viewing point.
