New House Build - What A/V cables?

Hi Folks,

About to start the First fix, hiding A/V the cables is not the problem.
Having a false wall about 2" deep fitted against the main wall, where TV is going.
Rear speakers & sub are going under the plaster.

Its what cables I need to put behind the walls, that I don't know.

I'm going to be running:
HD Plasma/LCD 42" ish
A/V receiver
Freeview with Hard drive
Upscaler DVD player
5.1 speakers inc. sub
and 2 Stereo speakers against main wall.

I'm not concerned about running the Best cables available, I do have a budget.

I just need to have an Idea what cables to run.

Thanks.

would it be possible to install a ducting system within the 2" gap so you can [fish] your cables through as you decide on a certain grade/make of cabling and with this you can alter them as and when needed?

Thanks,

As you say the 2" gap will leave room to add cables later.

Re: New House Build - What A/V cables?

If you have a 2 inch gap to pull new stuff through (and some way to do it) then I'd go for just what you need for now, and spend on the quality of that.

I had the same challenge, but with a bend to go around, so had to guess the cables for good - I put in dual component (one as a spare), S-video, centre speaker, dual phono pairs, aerial, and DVI-I ... and it still wasn't enough (but might help address your question - add HDMI instead of DVI now). No sooner was the wall 'shut' than HDMI came in instead of DVI! And a Wii sensor bar connection (no way to see that coming).

I put in 20mm trunking so I could get more through in future, but you can't pull HDMI through that. So, in short, if you can leave the full 2 inch gap accessible then I would.

Cheers

Greg
