It seems silly to say now but a couple of months ago I came to this forum for some answers to questions is had about putting my plasma on the wall. The questions I wanted to answer was how to chase out the wall, what to get the cable out of, etc.

To be honest I didn’t find the answers. so I thought I would make a post of my install and explain how I did those little jobs, I then got carried away and completely forgot to take pictures of the progress.

So firstly sorry for the lack of early pictures.

The first job was the get the cables in the wall.

I used standard Screwfix trunking. I made 2 drops about 6 inches apart, one to carry the signal and one to carry the shielded power cables.

I held the trunking to the wall and marked in Pencil each side. At the top I decided to use a 3gang Socket back to bring the cables out. I then used a cheap grinder fitted with a stone cutting disc to cut down the lines. It’s amazing how easy those things cut through the wall. A mask and eye protection is a must, also flowers for the wife to stop her going on about the dust is a also a must.

I then chipped out the plaster between the lines with chisel and attached the trunking and cage into the hole I had made. I filled my trunking with 1 Arial Coax, 2 HMDI's, 1 SVideo and Component even though my current setup only needs 1 HDMI and Coax.

I also ran a new power socket horizontally along the wall to provide power to the new cupboard hiding the kit.

I placed plasters joining tape over the trunking to provide a better surface for the plaster to key into and filled the hole with ready mixed quick drying plaster, I found it important to wait a week for the plaster to shrink back and then put another layer on before sanding flat a few days later. If I’m honest you can just about still see the lines where the trunking runs, I guess the only way to have a perfect finish is to employ a plaster to skim the whole wall.

I wasn’t sure how to bring the wires out at the bottom, I have so many including network cables that a single box wouldn’t do, so instead of letting the wires pull the plaster out I made a simple plate to lets the wires come out and protect the plaster at the same time.



You can also see the top box here, which turned out very useful as it had plenty of room to fit the 12 volt transformer needed to run the LED lights



After a few coats of paint this is how the project ended up.




The LED light are the new ones from IKEA, They have 3 settings, single colour ( about 10 different colours) , fast changing and finally my favourite slow mood fad changing, for around 21 quid they are excellent.

I will try and take a couple of pictures of the back plate as it turned out very well. The wooden Cabinet is from NEXT and is perfect to fit in Sky HD, Full Size AV Amp, HDDVD, Media Player and Xbox. As we have gone for a solid door until I’m using a Harmony RF remote to control all the kit without opening the door.

£21 !?, are they the strip version cos I paid £30 odd for mine from ikea last week?
