mounting panasonic px60 with mdf board behind it

Hi guys,

I have been inspired by some forrumers on placing an mdf board behind my 42 inch plasma before I wall mount it.

I want the mdf slightly bigger than the plasma so it creates a frame effect.

The plasma is 917mm x 645mm and I want the mdf to have a 150mm border around it. What size should the MDF be? (Apologies my mathematic skills are useless!)

Also I want to paint the MDf and have seen mentioned on here that it will be easier to put lining paper on the mdf. What type of lining paper should I use and how should I attach it to the MDF? (perhaps staples on the rear?)

Finally, can I use any paint on lining paper? (bearing in mind a plasma will be mounted on).

Please can you guys be patientg and help me

Kind regards

Waq

Your board needs to be 1217mm x 945mm to give a 150mm border around the perimeter of the screen.

You don't need to use lining paper, just use a water based wood primer and then paint over that with the colour of your choice - a good quality emulsion paint is OK for this, I would use a silk or satin finish for best quality finish

Thanks for the reply.

If I use primer, is it likely to hide the edges on the MDF which show all the bits of wood together?

This is why I thought I would like to use lining paper.

That depends on how well it is cut and how handy you are.

If it was mine I would wrap the edges with solid timber or run a router with a straight cutter along the edges to give a nice neat straight edge - but then I have the tools required and I'm quite handy like that.

If your not so confident then it may be worth your while using lining paper, but I think it will look crap.

Re: mounting panasonic px60 with mdf board behind it

I have taken your advice.

I have got the mdf cut to size at B&Q, and it has given me a smooth finish.

primer and emulsionpaintg also purchased.

thanks again for the advice!
