How difficult/easy/wise is it to attempt to channel a wall and mount an LCD yourself...? The wall is a solid one, above a decorative fireplace, and I would need to channel across and then down the side. Then fit a bracket...

Am not a DIY/builder. What d'you think? Is it worth it? Is it that difficult to channel yourself (not sure what to use..?).... the quote I'm getting from a professional install company is £48 p/hr... they say they'll channel/plaster/mount and it usually costs £150... I would need to supply the bracket... the tv will be 40"

If they do it and charge £150 and make a good job of it then go for it.
JUST make sure you put all the correct cables in.

I have done a few and £150 is a good price. One small thing that many have overlooked, power cable. Yes you can get 20 meters scart and what ever other cables you want. But also think power. When its up on the wall how will you get power to it.

The last tv I done the bloke ran a 20 meter power extension cable to the 42" lcd and just got away with hidding it behind the tv not the perfect thing to do but it worked for him.

He also did some nice trunking work.

Look on Ebay for kettle power leads they come in various sizes and they even make ones used by DJ's for their decks that are around 20 metres in length.

I got a 3m one for 99p plus P&P off there and solves a problem I had realised I would come across.
