3m Long MDF

Whilst perusing the forum I found a thread which contained a post with a link to a supplier of longer than standard MDF. I cannot for the life of me find it now. Searching for MDF on the forums only brings back a single thread which just isn't right!

Anyway if anyone knows anywhere that can supply a 3m lenght of MDF I'd appreciate it if you could post a link.

Cheers, FF

Re: 3m Long MDF

The Sheds normally only supply 2440mm * 1220mm but have you tried a local timber merchant instead ?

This was the most recent thread:

How long can you get MDF?

Suggest you pm the guy that got the 3.5m length and find out where he got it. Hope that helps.

Re: 3m Long MDF

w t edens do 12mm MDF in 3660x1830 but only at selected outlets.

http://www.edens.co.uk/

Personally i would go with standard size, slightly more stable...

Re: 3m Long MDF

FullFat, I'd just stick with the smaller sheets - you can get an invisible (when painted) joint quite easily with MDF. Just chamfer the edges slightly where they join (to make a 'V' between the boards) and use a decent 2-pack woodfiller (NOT polyfilla!). Smooth out the filler when wet, and sand it once it's properly set. You may then need to fill it a second time to fill any slight hollows, but you'll probably be OK with one.

It's far easier to make things in smaller sections & fill the joints - messing with 3.5m long bits of 3"x2" timber may be fine, but MDF at similar lengths is much more awkward, heavier, and will snap under it's own weight easier than you'd think!

Re: 3m Long MDF

Thanks all for the advice. I'll have a go with the shorter lengths and hope that my diy skills are up to the job!

Thanks for the links. Pictures will be posted when I find my camera. We've just moved into a new house and most stuff is still in boxes!
