Mustang's HT - Finally Ready ! (almost)

Hi all, thought I might share my home cinema I've been putting together since roughly November, after a moderate amount of work and planning it's coming together nicely.

Original setup / The Plan

We (myself and Mrs Mustang) decided, when moving house, that the new house should have a living room / extension suitable for housing a projector based system so we were fortunate enough to be able to pick a living room with suitable dimensions rather than have to modify an existing house heavily.

We had a large Thomson back projection television at the time (can't remember exact size : between 50-54 inch) and felt it "hogged" an awful lot of the room and window space- whilst we enjoyed the large screen, it had to go.

Once we found a house with a suitable living room, we bought it, moved in and immediately started to plan our HT.

The living room looked something like this not long after we arrived. (note the mission speakers were salvaged from our previous HT system)

Lets Do It !

It seemed about the time to start auditioning projectors and screens so I busied myself reading reviews, loitering about here and talking to enthusiasts - as luck would have it, a friend of a friend had a domino 20 he could bring over and show me, following the viewing I didnt hesitate in ordering a domino 30H up (from the very helpful RTFM), replaced my cambridge audio receiver with a yamaha rx-v100 and my wharfedale diamond rears with JBL control ones. Whilst I'm at it, may as well replace the old Sony dvd with a denon !

In no time at all the Sim2 boxes arrived (pj and mount) - thanks Jeff (RTFM)!

More to come very soon : just taking some more pix

Put down a nice dark carpet to soak up some of the ambient light and also some cloud9 underlay recommended elsewhere on the forum : it is very comfy and extremely good at dampening sound !

Ordered up a 106" sapphire screen from CVS media : took a half day or so to fit it with my Dad, only four screws going up into joists, but solid as a rock : can't recommend the screens from them enough !

Next up was the projector - again with help from Dad, we made a little wooden block, screwed it to the joist and the screwed the mount through that and into the ceiling / joist also.

Knocked a bit out of each joist upstairs and layed the power and HD cables across them (I have the projector powered from our bedroom upstairs) then passed the HD cable back down the wall to our AV rack and put conduit around it to keep it tidy. Replaced the floorboards and it worked out beautifully : really neat and tidy.

Couple of pictures of the system in action ! one with a light on in the room, one off...

The only thing left to do now really is get some dark curtains I can pull around the wall a little to dampen more ambient light : but right now it really isnt much of an issue. I've been blown away by the performance of the Sim 30H, never knew SD could look this good !

Thanks for your advice all !

looking good mate, the domino looks well mounted there. just one question though. do you have to move your tv every time the screen is down? or was that moved just while you took some pics.

Yeah unfortunately we need to move the telly to have the screen down at a good height : but thats why we went for a wee lcd 26" job : I would quite like to get a shorter unit for it, but I dont know if it would make much difference.

It's not much hassle to move it to be honest, all the cables are long enough to navigate it onto the floor.
