A bit of advice needed please

I have decided to wire a few network cables around the house, not much funds so trying to do as cheap as possible.
I am hoping to set up a Nas and have a Linksys wireless broadband router with 4 * rj45 ports.
This is what i want to do, and need advise on whether to put the Linksys up in the loft or in the front room behind the equipment and how many cables to run to each room (for future use).

Front room + bedroom 1 & 2 : xbox running XBMC ect or at a later date a smarter looking media streamer in each room.
Kitchen: music streamer.

We have two laptops, so they will use the wireless side of things and plug into the network for transfering to the NAS.
Bedroom 2 the boys are sharing but at a later date i will split into two and maybe they will have a computer each.

Would i be best to run a phone cable up into the loft for the broadband to plug into or run everything from the front room?
Where is the cheapest place to get a reel of cable or pre-made cables, conectors and plates from?

Many thanks (hope the above made sence)
Neil

Re: A bit of advice needed please

Someone posted a link to cheap reels of CAT5 in the cable section (I think) last week. Look for the CAT5 post. Screwfix also sell it.

I'd put the router where you have easy access to it e.g. to restart it.

Re: A bit of advice needed please

I'd agree with mhuk05 - put your router where you can easily reboot it. Mine needs resetting after a power cut.

I've installed my router under the stairs. I've also put an 8 port switch in the loft.
One PC (server) connects to the router, and a cable runs from the router to the switch in the loft.
One or two cables run from the loft down to each room.
