Custom 'floating' shelves

Hi,

I'm looking for somewhere to put my av equipment, but unless i'm willing to shed out a couple of hundred quid for something decent I need to build something.

I was looking at these floating shelves you can get from Homebase, B&Q etc, but none are the right dimensions.

See attached image for what i'm thinking, but how would I go about accomplishing something like this, baring in mind the A/V receiver is the biggest thing, which is 420 x 187 x 462 mm (W x H x D) and 16.2kgs.

Thanks very much/...

Re: Custom 'floating' shelves

Not cheap but Stands Unique do a system: http://www.standsunique.com/productr...wall/index.htm

Alternatively there is the Vogels system:
http://www.vogels.com/result.asp?Par...action=catalog

You dont need a shelf but have seen people use a piece of toughened glass as a shelf on the Vogels supports.

Do a search for the word shelf / shelves in the av stands / furniture forum. You will find more info there.

Re: Custom 'floating' shelves

You would really have to make them in the same way the homebasee/ikea ones are made.

A metal frame that is securley bolted to the wall with a wooden sleave that slides over the frame.
