Hello all,

I'm completely new to this home cinema game and was wondering if any of you could give me some help. I've just bought a new flat and want to plan my setup before I commit to buying anything.

I have some ideas but need to know if I have thought of everything.

I am probably going to buy the Sony KDL40W2000U LCD TV and have it wall mounted in the middle the longest wall in the room, about 1m from the floor. I am planning to have an AV rack with AV amplifier (not decided which), upscaling DVD player (not decided which) and XBox 360 in the corner of the room, and 5.1 speakers dotted about the room.

I have been advised to run the following cables:

TV to AV Rack - 1xSVHS, 2xHDMI, 2xSCART (RGB), 1xethernet, 1xUSB, 1xcomponent, 1xVGA, 1xaudio, 1xco-axial

Ariel output to TV - 1xco-axial

Ariel output to AV rack - 1xco-axial

AV amp to speakers - speaker cable

AV amp to subwoofer - subwoofer cable

I am also going to have 2xoptical audio cables and 3xco-axial audio cables running from my devices to the AV amp.

Does this sound about right?

Also,if its possible, I would like to be able to play my mp3s through the AV amp. Any ideas what the best device to do this with is?

Sounds about as 'future-proof' as you can be on the cabling front

Now, if you give us a budget and we'll all try to advise you on which kit to get. With regard to the MP3s - connect your MP3 player, via a dock, to the amp - Denon amps are particularly user-friendly in this regard.

I was planning on doing things in stages and probably look to spend 1k-1.5k, not including the tv. Is this do-able?
