Almost forgot!

I've also ordered some 'interweave' from Storey Carpets, the blurb reads:

Interweave is a fibreglass interliner design for use under rubber underlay and foam backed carpets. Interweave protects the underlay and foam back by preventing them from sticking to the floor. In order to comply with British Standards, Interweave should always be used on wooden floors to prevent updraft problems. As well as being incredibly durable, Interweave is rot-proof, non-allergenic, moth proof, resistant to moisture, vermin-proof and easy to cut and lay. Interweave is manufactured 1.5 metres wide and can be ordered in any quantity with any carpet order. Interweave is delivered free and will be wrapped inside your carpet.

I mean, it's only 99p a metre and it's going down in a garage conversion. If it doesn't actually do anything it won't sting that much

we used cloud 9 underlay on a job last year and when the carpet was down and you walked on it it sounded like you was walking on paper bags and the carpet layers had to come back and replace it with the green underlay ...

Naw, cloud9 is cracking underlay. I used it throughout my house. I would recommend this no problem. I have sold and fitted carpets with it and it makes a job so much easier and makes the carpet feel great.

Sound proofing wise it works a treat.

I agree, i have it fitted in about half the rooms in the house, will be doing the rest when my carpet needs changing. Love the stuff, got my carpets from Carpet Right, when i asked about Cloud 9, they said '' na mate, don't want that rubbish, you want our green premium underlay ''(£9.99 a sq mtr) , what a chav, they only slagged it off because they did not sell it, and made more money on the underlay than the carpet !!

Cloud 9 is good underlay, i work for a flooring contractor, and its used alot.
Might even be able to get it a bit cheaper if anyone wants some in the surrey area.

Carpet Right sell Tredaire underlay i believe, which is also good but they sell it for seriously inflated prices.

Well, I ended up going for ANOTHER carpet. This time from Carpet Right, when they asked about underlay I said I had Cloud Nine Cumulus (the thickest one they do). The Carpet Right guy said "Wow, that's cracking stuff. Much better than what we have in stock!"

The underlay looks great, I can't wait to get it down.

Just bought some of this.
Might seem a bit of a basic question but which way up do you lay the Cloud 9 Cumulus? Does the 'Cloud 9' backing paper on the top or bottom?
I have also found that the paper seems to part from the underlay where I have cut it.

I understand it's supposed to go backing paper side down (hence BACKING paper). So the silvery side with the lettering on is face up.

BTW are you taping the joints? If so, what with?

The Cloud 9 remains visible so its on top.

So the paper part is on top and the colourful 'spongy' stuff on the bottom. I got it right! Is that how you understand it coz you said backing paper side down (which I presumed you meant on the floorboards with the 'spongy' side up?)
I taped the joints with Gaffer tape/Duck Tape.

I'll have to get me some Duck Tape. My carpet gets fitted on 11th October

Both me and my wife thinks it's very luxurious.

The only small problem I have is that the backing paper has parted where I have cut the length and is loose (I don't think it was ever attached). I have been in touch with Carpets Direct who said that they are concerned because it shouldn't happen. They further said that it wouldn't affect the performance of the underlay but they were quite happy to replace it.

We've got this pretty much everywhere now.

We had a trade carpet fitter fit our first few carpets, and he recommended it to us - we've not looked back since. I bought and laid the last lot myself because the carpet shop didn't stock it, and it ended up being the same price as their good stuff. You can really tell when you go from a room without to a room with - it's a different class of underlay.

Is there any reason why the cloud nine shouldn't be used on laminate/click flooring?

Just about to redo the flooring from the original carpet and would rather not throw the existing underlay away just to purchase more if the original stuff would do just as well...

Well, my brother put laminate over an existing carpet and now it feels like you walk on water whenever you go in.

I'd keep anything under laminate thin, which Cloud 9 isn't.

But you could give it a try.

You can't use Cloud 9 under laminate, it's too think and soft. I think the company do a special laminate underlay, but I wouldn't recommend using it as well as another.

We had some new carpets fitted yesterday and by coincidence they used Cloud 9 underlay, I asked the guy about this stuff and he said they use it because it is cheap and effective.

well we had a carpet fitted on friday at a job and they used cloud 9 underlay well all i can say is that the carpet layers we used last yaer are dickheads it turns out they layed it upside down so thats where the nosie came from

I'm not sure which way round mine was fitted but I don't hear any noises.

Seems like great stuff! You can stamp on it with your heel and not feel the floor

We just had a new really deep American carpet fitted and they recommended Cloud 9 ,up til then we'd never heard of it. When I lifted the old carpet the night before, the underlay already down was like new. The carpet and underlay already fitted was only about a year old (previous owners had it put down) so we cancelled the Cloud 9. Well the new carpet feels great ,you nearly sink into it when you walk on it but after reading this Im wondering if we missed out . Too late now....

Hi there, i work at carpetright, and i have to say for everything exept the carpets we charge alot more than we pay for it. For example a single rod of gripper costs us 11p and we sell them for £1.99 a metre. Also as mentioned in the thread before, we only sell tredaire underlay but assign other names to them instead of the colour.

For example the black is called first step, the brown is called comfort master etc.

hey there i am a floor layer and have been for over ten years now......cloud 9 was brought out due to it being a light weight underlay that can be easy carried about and fitted.it is light as a feather but i have to say that it isnt all its cracked up to be..........me and the old chap have both stopped using it, everyine has there opition bout it just thought i would throw my info into the ring
