Wood types??

Hi I am just wondering if 18mm black ash chipboard is ok for a small subwoofer, the box will be braced and totaly airtight.

The subwoofer driver and amp will be part of the IPL subwoofer kits.

I already have the black ash chipboard wood cut and ready, it was free a present from a friend who works with wood and he said chipboard would be fine for subwoofers.

I always thourght MDF or Birch plywood would the the best for sub boxes but is 18 mil chipboard good enough?

No Chip board is crap for a subwoofer enclosure!!!

Use mdf 22mm thick at least.

Either spray black if that is the colour you want, or use some of the spray stone effect paints you can get from most places.

Otherwise get real wood veneer iron on. A few coats of varnish or a stain/wax/varnish mix for a real good finish.
