Ceiling Question

Hi,
I would like to secure another layer of plasterboard to the existing ceiling in my garage conversion.

The current construction is roofing (metal & tiles)/wooden frame/rockwool/waterproof membrane/1 layer of plasterboard/skimmed plaster.

What is the best method of doing this ?

Cheers

Re: Ceiling Question

not sure why you would need 2 lots of plasterboard

but any way

I would always try and use 12.5mm plasterboard,( if its for sound insulation or heat insulation call at a builders merchants as they have special foil backed plasterboard etc ) taper edge if you're tape and fillng it as opposed to plastering.

Use screws to fix it as well, proper gyproc ones not just woodscrews, make sure when you go to the suppliers you tell them what you are doing dont worry about looking daft you look even dafter going back after the thing has fallen down .

find the joists and make sure you stagger them also get a mate to help you as they are bloody arkward

Re: Ceiling Question

if you really want to go to town how about this

http://www.domesticsoundproofing.co.uk/ceiling.htm

they say to use their products but you could probably pick them up from a decent builders merchants ( try and stay away from B&Q ) and if you pay cash they might knock something off

good luck
