Exclamation I'm so STUPID can anybody help??

Hi

I've just tried fitting my new panasonic TH-42PX600 to the wall using some
M6 metal Rawlplug wall bolts. I used a 12mm drill bit and made the holes 50mm deep as instructed on the packet. But the holes are too big!!!

The bolts will tighten up so far but when they get too much resistance the whole thing just spins in the hole!!!

Not sure if the drill slipped slightly when I was drilling the holes and as a consequence they are now a bit bigger than they should be or whether its something else. Has anybody else had this problem?

Now the problem is that I dont want to move the postion of the mount and make new holes because it wont look right. Can I fill the holes and redrill? If I use filler will it be strong enough or should I use something else?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

What is your wall made of ? eg block, victorian brick, random stone etc

What sort of drill did you use - eg SDS, cordless, rotary hammer mains drill etc

How hard was it to drill - 10 seconds a hole .... .1 hour a hole

I take it it said to use a 12mm drill on the packet

You can probably glue them into their holes - but what the hole is in is important.

Re: I'm so STUPID can anybody help??

you could allways get some M8 bolts and use them.

make hole slightly larger to suit the size of the M8 bolts...

Thanks for the replies guys the wall is breese blockcovered in plaster board. It took less than a min to do a hole usinging a mates boschammer cordless SDS drill. Thought about using bigger bolts but they won;t go through the eye holes on theis panasonic mount.

If moving up a size to M8 doesn't work, you could always use a chemical anchor system where the threaded rod is set in the hole with a very strong/tough glue. These can be a bit more expensive that expansion bolts, but if you're struggling it might be an idea.
Screwfix do quite a few options here.
Hope this helps

Personally that's what I'd do - but then I think people make too much fuss about the weight of their plasmas - My pio 436 bracket is screwed with four screws to a 2x4" temporary frame (sorry height evalutation device ) at the moment.

Re: I'm so STUPID can anybody help??

If you are using raw bolts...then you have an expanding sleeve, and inside is a threaded stud...on teh end is a nut.

Have you tried holding the stud still, with mole grips or similar, while doing teh nut up?

This will allow the expanding section to grip into teh breeze, before you finally do it all up.

Also...dont forget....that i fyou are trying to do it up with teh bracket in situ...you dont need to...you can tighten then enough to lock in, then remove teh nuts, fit teh bracket and re-fit teh nuts.

If you do need to go up a size...just drill out teh mounting holes in teh bracket.

If when done, its lopsided...elongat teh holes, so you can wiggle it around with a spirit level on top, tehn tighten it up.

Re: I'm so STUPID can anybody help??

thanks for the replies. I called the technical line at Rawlplug and they said that an epoxy resin was the best choice with some 6mm threaded rob cut to size. So its all up on the wall now, just got to wait for it to set!!!! one hour and counting!!
