TV hoist mechanism?

Does anyone know of a piece of equipment - either custom-made or intended for another purpose - which could be used to raise and lower a moderately heavy 26" widescreen TV set out of and into a concealing cabinet?

Dont know of any such hoist, I suppose a small engine block hoist would work!

although a little over the top for just moving a TV

Best way I've found of moving my 32inch TV (which weighs 95kg

)is to get a mate round to give me a hand.

I got a furniture maker to look at this for me. I wanted a fairly plain box at the bottom of the bed that I could lift the top of and have the TV appear and then push down again when not in use.

The best thing he could find was used in Yachts which came with an electric motor so it could be automated at the touch of a button. This sounded really cool but the 1500 (I think £ but may have been dollars) rather out it of my justifiable price range.

Dochall, thanks for the reply. I was thinking of an installation on exactly those lines, but you're right, the cost is prohibitive. Pity: it would be relatively easy to rig up a DIY version, if it weren't for the weight.

Machine mart do a nice range of lifting gear including a hydraulic plant lift for Quad and motor cycles, this should give you some ideas, small hydraulic ram operating a scissor lift mechanism couple of hundred i would have thought.

- not exactly cheap, though - but you can get them with a remote!!!

Fair enough not cheap but about $1000 dollars cheaper than the one's found.

I didn't know this thread existed.

Its a real pain in the butt problem to solve. I have given it a lot of thought and even touched bases with a couple of Engineers that I know. Most of the solutions they have come up with have been too complex.

I even looked at using a Scissor Car Jack, but it only had a lift of about 300mm.

I personally prefer to make one as opposed to spending Big Bucks on one. I don't want this TV lift idea to cost more than my PJ.

Any Ideas?

When I was seriously looking at this I did think about a similar mechanism to a sash window with counterweights but I think you will still need to pin the tv once raiseed.

TBH I don't think these new ones appear to be overpriced.

I don't know what the prices will be like but it would be worth looking up Future Automation. They manufacture all kinds of lift mechanisms for many different applications. www.futureautomation.co.uk

Remember, whatever system you look into it will need to be (I can't think what it would be called) some sort of "dead" system. I.E. if the motor blows or whatever mechanism you choose, the mechanism simply dies, and stays still... I.E. Your TV doesn't go crashing to the bottom of the box!

So is there actually a DIY design around to follow or am I going to have to come up with my own. Not that it appears to be a difficult problem.

Looks like I'd need 2 of the low force actuators as they're faster or wait a minute at least to watch TV. Also for anyone from Firgelli UK you've spelt force wrong on the 57lb actuators.

Iam looking for somthing similar. My 86cm Tv is 75kgs. All i want to do is raise it lets say 30cm's max off the Entertainment unit i have. My TV is my PC screen as well. So i would like it at eye level when iam playign games and such and lower it when iam going to watch a move. I know its stupid but thats just me.

nyoen found anything good ??

Dont have a plasma. Its a CRT 86cm TV. Dont see anythign that woudl work in my Situation.

i was in the same situation as you

my advice would be save yourself the time and money of looking for a crt lift and buy a lcd and lcd lift

If their was a LCd or plasma worth buying i would have done that instead of buying the 86cm crt.

LCDS and Plasmas are **** compared to my HD Crt.

Bring on SED.
