One place you can be almost sure to get the rod from is B&Q. That's where I bought my first lot from.

If you have a specialist supplier near you then they would probably be cheaper.

There are two near me who sell only steel and aluminium rods, nuts, bolts etc.

screwfix are £3.13 for s/steel 10mm dia 1000mm long, IIRC.
