Log Cabin Build?

Hello all,

I'm about to embark on a cinema room in the garden. It will have to have a small corner given over to a desk and PC as I will want to work from home occasionally, but the main reason for the build will be to watch films with the kids. I had initially applied for planning permission for a double garage with a room above it but this was declined on aesthetic reasons as the roof would be too high (I live in a rural area and the council thought the views might be obscured). I'm therefore building the garage with a 4m height which means I need another "building" for the HC.

Because I don't want another battle with the planners, I'm thinking of starting off with this (I believe this type of building doesn't require planning permission as long as it's less than 4m high and more than 5m from your house):

Then building an insulated room inside it. I would like to use an external air conditioning unit for both heating and cooling (no experience with these - any recommendations - have seen some at B&Q?), by external I mean one of the ones with the noisy bits outside!

I can get power from the garage which the HC will probably back onto, any ideas how much I'll need? I reckon around 3kw, but that might not be enough if the system and aircon are running at the same time.

Kit-wise I've got some stuff that will work for now, I'm likely to pick up some more during the process . For now, it's based around a Panasonic PTAE200 projector, HS2 DVD/HD player/recorder, Sony STR-DB830 amp and Linn Kesoa/Kan/Centrik/Sizmik speakers. I may go for Sky HD in there if I can manage the budget to replace the projector and amp.....then I'll need a good DVD player too...UGIitis....

Sorry, I digress. Anyone done anything like this before? Anything I need to think about before I start? I'm likely to order the building in about 2 weeks, so the shell should be up in a month(ish).

Thanks very much for any help in advance,

Noel

Thanks very much for the response Inzaman. Before I posted I searched for "Log Cabin", "Garden Building" and "Summerhouse" - forgot to try "Shed"!

Siratas did a great job there, particularly impressed with the fact he managed to achieve such a good look on a limited budget - just goes to show what can be done with a bit of creativity and elbow grease!

I notice you built yours in your cellar - looks very nice

Any tips before I start off? (One already pinched from Siratas - build a stage).

Cheers,

Noel

Just planning, planning and more planning really; in particular where your screen and equipment is going to be so you can run the appropriate leads/wires etc.
A stage would be nice, i would have loved one for my cellar conversion but just did'nt have the head room.

Thanks Inzaman.

I managed to have a look at the building in the wood today, seems like a good shell to start with......
