Newbie help needed!

Ok

I am in the process of buying a new flat and when I move I want to leave the 30" crt square telly and the trusty but now on its last legs budget all in one cheapy thing behind.

I have my eye on the new 42" Tosh LCD which Im set on, but the sound system is a bit of a mystery to me , as In Im not sure what to buy!

after i have bought the tv I will have about £1000 left over for the surround system, now the room is fairly small 10.5ft x 11ft so I don't need anything earth shattering but I would like a step up from my old cheapy, also if any of the systems have DAB that would be of interest!

so am I dreaming or can I get a decent setup for this cash and what do I need exactly to be looking at?

your help is apreciated!

Cheers

PH

Perfectly possible to get a decent system for £1000. This kind of money will buy a top of the range all-in-one (home cinema in a box) system, or a good entry level separates system (£500 speakers, £350 amp, £150 DVD).
If you go for an all in one, make sure you get one with a few spare inputs - some of the current models can't take a digital audio signal from a sky box, Freeview, etc.

Find yourself a good AV/hifi shop, and have a listen to a few systems.

Not sure about DAB, as it doesn't really work where I live. I listen to radio via my Freeview box or sky.

Hi and welcome the forums, this is the DIY section which is mainly for cinema build projects etc as opposed to general queries.

The best advice is to have a look around the forums and all the various areas to get a feel what equipment is out there that fits to your budget. You can then ask specific questions in those areas that are relevant to the equipment that you are thinking of purchasing.

As a start you could try all in one systems and integrated receivers/amps as this will be the hub of your system.

This thread has therefore been closed as its not relevant to the DIY section.
