Sweets/Drinks cabinents in your Home Cinema

I was wondering whether anyone on here had set up a section where they held their beers/drinks and sweets. I looking to do on at home and was hoping to "steal" some ideas?

Anyone?

Once my carpet is fitted in the cellar (on Monday ) I will be looking to put in my beer fridge and a sweet counter. I'm planning on making a counter with MDF and putting it at the end of a room that runs off the main cinema room. I've been looking on AVS Forums for ideas - check the Theater Room Items & Accessories sub-forum - there are a lot of examples here - popcorn makers, sweet counters - the works.

Good luck!

Something like this

Those Americans sure know how to go for the cinema experience!

Thanks to all.

I have been doing some searches on AVS, but they are very, very "american" and I was hoping someone from Europe would post their's as I think that would be more up my street.

It was more the ideas than the look of the American ones that I thought was good. I've designed what I want to build (attached).

Room is 1.17m wide, and I will have a wine rack at the bottom, then the fridge on top with some shelves for glasses, sweets, popcorn etc. next to the fridge. I intend to just have a simple frame with MDF for the main structure with glass shelves with a mirror behind them. The end wall is chocolate brown with a coffee ceiling and light terracotta walls (looks better than it sounds!).
I'm thinking of getting a plain Husky fridge (i.e. without the coke/budweiser etc. logo on the glass door).

I may put a glass door with a lock over the shelves (can't see the sweets lasting long otherwise once the kids find it!)

What do you think?

Excellent, thanks

Near exactly what I was thinking of. Im in the great position of having my father in law to build whatever I come up with and I might actually steal your design and amend it a but (sorry)

The unit will need to accomodate a fridge/small wine rack/shelves for sweets. I don't like popcorn that much, so luckily I don't need to go down the popcorn machine route and I can focus more on the sweets/beer/wine.

Great - well if you put your design up, I may use your ideas too!

Now that the carpet is fitted (all sorted yesterday), the room looks even better. The kids all want to have film parties at home now, so the drinks and sweets will go down well (and I'll probably cover the costs on savings from a couple of trips to the cinema - scary how much it costs for 5 of us plus drinks etc.!).
I'm not going to get a popcorn maker - too much hassle. Bags of toffee popcorn from the supermarket will do for me :-)

I have added my design below yours in the PDF. Sorry about the quick drawing - Im not that good at that type of thing. But it is quite similar to yours.

The fridge is going to be "something" like this one:

Im hoping I can get 5 old style jars like these for the second shelf

Then for the 2 small glass shelfs, I wanted jars like this:

I have one already (it used to be a candle that my wife had)

The kids on my side (6 30 year old lads) want a film party too - trying to organise it for the next couple of months, hopefully I will be in a position to post pics of the room and hopefully it will be near done. (waiting on retired father in law(carpenter)to stop taking long holidays! )

LOL! They know that they're in serious trouble if they make any mess anywhere in the room (and I also got a dark carpet just in case!)

I'll post some pics tonight - I keep meaning to update my web site!

Good idea with the jars - I saw these jars which I might get for sweets - saw the 'home sweet home' ones you posted on eBay - they have three different sizes.

Just had a look at your site waf-tastic- Im seriously impressed! You have done some great work there.

Very impressed with the intro:

Do you burn that to disk? Anychance you could post a link of how to get it done up.

Im hoping to do some sort of demo disk for when my friends come over to mine. I was hoping to cut and past clips from the Matrix/Superman/Spideman/Lord of the rings/House of Flying daggers and the like - just to show what the projector can do and I would love an opening like that.

Any help and I would appreciate it?

There is a very nice man who does it for you - you just need to ask nicely on the thread below, download blender and dedicate a machine to rendering it for a while.

The thread is here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=538807
I suggest you read the first bit and then go to the end.

Thanks - as theendisnye says, Reaper will create a file for you which you then render to create a movie file. You can burn this to dvd, but I have in mpeg format on my PC. I can then play it an switch the inputs on the amp to show a DVD. Another thing I've done is to use XLobby to create an intro of sorts - you can create movie playlist so I can play my movie, then random trailers that I download from apple movie trailers site. I only do this occasionally, but people are always impressed!

Before and after

Here are a couple of pics before and after the conversion - quite a difference

Still need to build my center and rear speaker stands though....

Thanks for that theendisnye, the only problem there is that Im still waiting to get dsl/broadband and only have dial up - I presume I need to be connected to the web for all that time, is that correct?

No - if you ask on the thread for your chosen words, Reaper creates you a blender file. You download this, then download a copy of the blender rendering software, then you render it on your own PC. It can take some time (on my lowly machine at home it took the best part of a whole day!) but it's worth it.

Cheers - thanks again.

I will have a look at xlobby, I have a spare tablet pc that I don't use that could come in handy with that software installed. T

Excellent stuff - thats brilliant. Will try and get it sorted later today and see how long it takes me.

Sorry, one last question/s, what type of file does it end up in. Can it be burned to a disk and then other files be "edited" together with it? Or is it just a file that you play on your HTPC as the opening to your cinema?

I have a friend who is an av editor and I was hoping he could create a compliation disk with this opening on it for the viewing of my home cinema?

You end up with a raw AVI file that's massive (~600MB). You then need to convert it to an mpeg file to burn it to DVD or play on your HTPC. I tried playing the raw avi file on my PC but it wasn't fast enough to play it smoothly. Once it's in mpeg form, plays perfectly. You also need to download the audio file (the 20th century fox theme) and merge this with the video - will be no problem if you know an AV editor!

I just stumbled across A quarter of - they sell sweets (old ones too - takes me back, Wham bars, sherbert fountains... :-) as well as jars to put them in.

Must try not to get an account with them

I've got one of those fridges in my basement (which has a pool table in it not a cinema). It will make a bit of noise from the compressor - not a lot but a bit - so you may want to unplug it for films or look at the fridges made for hotel room mini bars as they are designed differently to be silent.

I've got a Prima Duck Popcorn maker which is fun and makes great popcorn at £1 for absolutely tonnes of raw popcorn - you only need a tablespoon to make a massive bowl.
Mine came from Amazon and cost £20 - the same thing is here...

Mine will be going in a room with a door off the main cinema room, so should be ok. I'll take a look for the hotel minibar fridges though (although I'm really looking for one with a glass door).

The kids would like that one - I may be able to stretch the budget for that :-) Luckily I made sure I had plent of power outlets at the back of the room so it won't be too much hassle.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Sweets/Drinks cabinents in your Home Cinema

Thought I would post a couple of pictures of my Cinema room which is part of my larger self build project...

The house is still under construction although this room is furthest forward at the moment!!! Priorities, who needs a toilet?

I had gone more with an adult theme, Bar rather than Sweet Shop, Although restacking the shelves could change the 'feel' of things...

More pictures of the whole house are here

NICE....

Its a pipe dream of mine (and the wife) to buid our own home, I presume its not a package job, it looks like an architects individual design ?

Hows it all gone so far ?? ive heard so many horror stories about self building but so far im not put off (other than by the cost of land where we live !!).

On another note, the links to the US websites really got me thinking about a small popcorn machine but i like the cinema sweet stuff rather than salted or toffee, has anyone got a popcorn machine thats easily available in the UK and not too expensive that can do this kind of popcorn ?? ive seen various books on the web with recipies so I may buy one to see what my oprions are for sweet popcorn.

Cheers.
