window soundproofing

hello chaps

does anyone have any good info on soundproofing sash windows.? i cant replace with double glazing as the building is listed. i can work from the inside though - i`ve got a 1 1/2" deep recess in which i can fit secondary dbl glazing, but is there a better option?

cheers for any help

If you ant to keep the windows as windows, I don't think there's much you can do.

Can't you get double glazed sash widows made up? Expensive, but I'm sure there are companies that can do it. BACs maybe?

thanx for the reply Gary
i can add a second pane myself inside but cannot fit a sealed unit.
don`t know whether this will help though?
i am not allowed to touch the outside window at all.
i do need to be able to open the window for ventilation every now and then.

it`s looking like secondary double glazing is the way to go?

doesn`t anyone else have sash windows? they are such a pain in the a**e.- cant watch films at low volume - lose dialogue every time a lorry goes past!
cheers

It does look like secondary double glazing is your only option really.

Try over at avsforum to see if anyone else has a better idea.
