My HC is in a dedicated room oposite the main sitting room. It's an old Georgian house with pretty thick walls and the room above is a spare room, so no problem with sound leaking upwards.

However, the door to the HC is pretty thin and has a glass panel (covered with a blind), I beleive it to be as acoustically transparent as the speaker cloth on my Monitor Audios!!! The question is, how can I stop sound leakage through this door, without changing the door as it matched the oposite on and the G/F wouldn't want it changing! I don't need total sound proofing but a reduction in sound would be great.

It's all about AIR. Moving air is what noise is.....So stop air from moving between the rooms through the gaps in the door. What you use to do this is another matter. You also want to stop the door moving and acting as a speaker.

If it is a loose fit in the frame consider draft excluder roll to seal around inside of frame and stop rattles. Try an external draft sealing brush strip on bottom to stop air getting out there. The other option is to get a joiner in to fit some sort of rubber seal to door itself and frame.

Thanks, I'll give the draught excludes a go, and if I replace the blind with a heavy curtain to try and absorb some sound before it even gets to the door.

At least no one has suggested 2 doors with an Airlock between them!!!

How about using 2 doors with an airlock between

Why not build a room within the room, float it with superconducting electromagnets and then suck out the air between the 2.

You could try swapping the door and using a fire door or solid hardwood door.

I use a fire door with the draft excluder with reasonable results get a 25 db drop.

Try covering the inside with sound deading material.

Sound will leak from the weakest point.

Thanks Nathan, I haven't done anything yet but was considering a slightly heavier door. I wasn't sure how effective it would be so haven't actually committed to it yet!

The 25db drop sounds ideal to keep my Girlfriend happy so I may give it a go.
