Living Room Refurb - Speaker Positions

Hi guys.

Looking for a little help with positioning my speakers. I'm currently refurbing a house and I want to run conduit for the cables as its all being replastered. They will be run behind the skirting and then up to their final positions.

The screen (plasma/lcd) will be mounted on a chimney breast with centre speaker either above or below. I am planning on having floor standers in each alcove either side of the chinmey. For the rears I have two options A and B in attached picture. For both positions we will have to mount fairly high - around 2.5m, to get them above the picture rail and doorway height.

Firstly, do I go for position A or B and if so should I mount them so that they are pointing downward. Secondly should the centre speaker go above or below the screen which is above a fireplace (gas living flame type).

I'm looking for teh best position but as I don't have the equipment yet (or any power in the house!) I can't really experiment. BTW I am planning on getting the Tannoy SENYS system for the speakers

Any help or advice appreciated!

Cheers

Richard

Hi,

It looks like we have exactly the same room set up. Our LCD is over the fireplace with the centre speaker underneath. We've got Canton speaker and are only small but the rears are directed at the sofa.

Hope this helps.

Richie.

1930's semi by any chance...?

Are the rears at the rear or to the side? I had a look at the Dolby Digital site and I am leaning towards side placement now.

Lots of info on speaker placings in this link http://www.4seating.com/audio_DolbyReference.htm

I've tried to follow those guidelines as much as possible and now have my rears at the sides pointing across the room

Dipole/ bipoles are better on the side or monopoles on the wall behind.

Your room is an exact mirror of mine but my TV is in the bay- I like the top of my TV at eye level
