Ikea blackout blinds - really good at cutting ambient light!

Shouldn't be a surprise but as most people put them to use as screens I have used one to actually blackout the HC room. I have a venetian in there which I like because I can tilt it to allow air in but not sunlight etc. However as summer approaches the evenings are getting lighter and the ambient light coming in is getting too high.

So I have fitted a dark blue one above the window and the amount of light getting into the room is now quite seriously zero. I have dark brown walls and doors too so the ambient light affecting the screen has always been low but now it is like the middle of the night in the middle of the day (I can't make out the screen from 12ft away).

My tip would be to get one bigger than the window if poss and hang it above the window to the ceiling to get it as close to the wall as possible.

Even if you just need to cut down the light in a normal lounge these seem an affordable and easy way of doing it without any permanent changes.
