hi guys, just started my DIY attempt this week. forgot to get some pictures before i started but never mind. just finished fitting the false ceiling and knocking out the built in wardrobe with my uncle today so things are underway.

the visual plan is to project onto my cream wall for the moment, as a screen will be one of the last expenses. and have all my av equipment at the back of the room where ive just knocked out my wardrobe and run cables through the cieling to the projector and under the carpet to my tv at the front of the room.

the equpment ive got at the moment is

samsung hd935 dvd player
yamaha rx357 reciever
toshiba tdp mt500 projector
2 black minipod speakers 2 black micropod speakers ( in need of a cinepod )
sky+
32" hitachi crt tv ( getting an lcd at a later date )
sony cd player ( in need of a new one )
4 meter monster dvi400 cable
2 profigold 10m scart cables
profigold optical and coxial cables
profigold s video cable
30 meters of qed micro speaker cable

im only 18 and just left collage so the funds for the project arnt exactly flowing in at the moment

but with one uncle as a joiner another as a carpet fitter and the other as a general "i'll give anything a try and it always turns out good" kinda person i should be ok

i'll upload the pictures of the work in progress later on as i havnt got time at the moment.

feel free to post your views be they good or bad.

found a picture of the wardrobe wall the way it used to look

and here it is now

this is the wall im going to project onto. thers going to be a low long cabinet the full length of the wall which will house my tv that will rise from within the cabinet and my fridge and all the girlfriends clutter

thers going to be a metal bar and 4 bar stools along this wall

and heres where my bed will go

hope you kind of get an idea of the shape and look of the room

thanks mate, i'll take some more pics tomorow night if we get the plastering of the wall and ceiling done.

my best buy so fars the spotlights. cost me £130 for 10 but i think they were well worth it.

i'll take a closer pic of a spotlight in the daytime tomorow when the lights better so you can have a look

nice room mate you would be surprised how similar some bits are to my bedroom / cinema project!! colours are identical and i have gone for a black leather bed with the idea of a sofa to match!

unfortunately im not as handy as yourself so will have to get people in to do the work!

other thing i noticed was that you are after a cinepod! i have a couple you could buy if you were desperate but they are silver?! let me know if your interested and id start a for sale thread to stay within the rules!

will definitely keep track of this one

thanks for the comments mate, have you started a thread about your project? unfortunatley the cinepod would have to be black to match the rest. i can get hold of one for £230 in black but with the ongoing project its not the main priority.

im actually going for a low cabinet all across the main wall too... all mu ints are going to be gloss black but need to get them ordered from ikea!

i was thinking about geting cabinets from ikea but i want a perfect fit so im getting them custom made. also with me wanting to make the tv rise out of the cabinet custom was the only way to go really

if you contact a local carpenter or furniture make they will give you a free quote, you might find it to be the same price or even cheaper than buying a load of units from ikea.
There are a few tv lift sites about but there not cheap so im trying to invent a mechanism myself and as my dads a mechanic with bmw im hoping he can source me some way of powering the lift. possibly using the window motor if its strong enough to lift an lcd.
my advice would be take your time and get creative, its half the fun

just finished patching the imperfections over, just gonna wait for that to dry then go and sand it.

boxing the light cables in a bit later on, then i just need to lining paper the walls and paint them and the ceiling.

Windscreen wiper motor.... Apparently they are quite torquey so you may find they have the power to do the lifting.

Ultimately though with the right gearing anything is possible. Proper gears (cogs) are quite expensive though but you can get them from places. I've actually got a design in my head at the moment, but it's quite hard to explain in words....

hi again guys, works been very slow since i last posted. getting someone in to do the paining and decorating this week hopefully so things should move on swiftly after that.

just bought some covers for the holes in the roof where the cables are going to come in and out. i promised someone i would post up what i was going to use so here it is

there used for cable management in computer desks but they should work really well on the roof.

looking good, god at 18 had to make do with a 14" tv and a vsh (no nicam) me and my mate trying to work out what combination of recorders would bypass the encryption system. Best advise i could think of is as it llooks like an attic room have you hought about sound proofing? might be worth a bit of effort there so you can crank it up.

weve got a great relationship with the neighbours, so sound proofing isnt an issue. i'll just keep them sweet by inviting them round every so often for a movie night
