Rear Ported Speakers in Cabinet

I'm in the process of designing a wooden cabinet to house dvd, amp, sky etc.. and also my centre speaker.
I am going to have doors on the front which when using the centre speaker I will have open (they will slide down the sides of the cabinet). My question is though what do I need to ensure with the centre speaker? I have the MA Sliver LCR - I cannot believe it will be as easy as simply putting the plug in?
Do I need to surround the inside of the space for the speakers with anything? How much bigger than the speaker should it be? Finally would the speaker benefit from being on spikes?
Any advice would be great!
