hi all as you will probably know I'm fairly new to this forum and have taken alot of advise of it as regards buying a Plasma, but now I'm stuck!

you see i bought this plasma for my wife and i's new house, now my Mrs wants me to get some one in to fit the plasma to the wall (chimney breast) now this is a good idea as I'm useless at DIY. I still need to buy the bracket yet so Ive got plenty of time (haven't even moved in yet). Anyways is it best to get someone to come and fit it as Ive also got a DVD player/ Recorder that needs setting properly aswell (i cant seem to get the Guide+ to work). Does anybody know roughly how much it would cost me to to have someone come round and fit my plasma on the wall, set up my DVD player (properly) and make sure the cables are all hidden (i know involves drilling and plastering but to these installers do the job as a whole?). Also can anyone recommend and installer in the Nuneaton area (Midlands).

I know all this sounds abit stupid but Ive got over £3000 worth of gear that i want setting up properly and not make a bodge job of it all!

Any advice would be appreciated.

John did that guy in your link just drill the hole , fill it with no more nails and insert his threaded rod? Thats what it looks like from here!
I know its all down to personal oppinions in here and IMO id never hand a plasma like that , it looks very very dodgy (if ive got his description wrong then ill happily stand corrected.)

Sean - take a look through a lot of the posts in this section , there is plenty of advice about hanging plasmas if you want to have a crack at it yourself!
If you get someone in i dare say it you'd be looking at £125 - £150 per day but if you managed to find someone local he /she may be able to do it in half a day for the half the price so probably best to ring round for some quotes.
Be warned though , fitting a plasma screen is more of a specialist thing so some cowboys will try to exploit this fact!

In my opinion , if you know how to use a basic sds hammer drill then there is no reason why you cant have a crack at it yourself!

@ john59 - its looks quite a good job m8 but ive got to attach mine to a chimney Breast which has currently got a working gas fire, which im still unsure weather to take out or not? im not sure if the walls would be different?

@ jon boy - I would like to attempt it myself but i dont think my mrs will let me, she knows im crap at DIY. wish you lived near me

does anybody know if it would be safe to knock down a chimney breast (obviosly have the gas capped off by a corgi guy first) and just start again as i like the idea od what cl0nd0n has done here My new plasma wall . . .
but i would like the option for either a new gas fire (real trendy one) or electric fire (again trendy) or just to have a hole in the wall and put a light and a plant in there similar to cl0nd0n?

Jon Boy, It looks like he did fill with no more nails, I would have used a chemical hardener instead (I've done the same thing when hanging steel rsj's on large jobs when putting in a mezzanine floor but then again we also used metal raw bolts about 4 " long

Hold a pencil between 2 fingers about an inch in from the end and then apply downward force to the end of the short part. The long end of the pencil will pivot and the long part raise up.

Now hold your pencil in a clenced fist with an inch protruding from your hand. When you push down on the end now it doesn't go anywhere.

When you wall mount a plasma there is very little tension actually tring to pull the bolt out of the wall, and the majority of the work is done by the concrete blocks acting on the bolts in the same way your hand did on the pencil.

If you wanted to hang the screen from the ceiling it would be very different, but on a wall the 'No More Nails' serves to prevent the threaded rod from moving, but the load bearing is done primarily by the rod and concrete blocks...

baldrick your spot on there mate, the same principal as a tv wall bracket, you would not think 4 or 6 size 10s 3" screws would support a portable TV weighing 10 to 15 kg's

There is more involved than just knocking it down mate. If you are thinking
of doing this, get a builder in.

This is a very big job and not a DIY one, as you will need to reinforce the chimney breast above with ISJ or take the chimney breast in the whole house complety out. Otherwise it will fall down at some stage as it wont be properly supported.

If you want to play very safe with fitting the Plasma, then why dont you go to your local AV sepalist shop (Audio-T etc) and ask them how much they would charge to fit it, as they all have installer teams? and this way you know it will be done right, prob want be cheap, but its worth finding out, as it might not be to bad, at the very list they will be able to recommened someone else.
