Well I have finally started my new wall.

Here are some quick photo's of the build so far!

What are you going to do in the little area with the lights.

Where are you going to hook up/position the AV amp/kit/centre speakers etc.

I'm interested as I may have to copy you; I don't think I'd be able to work all this out myself.

Basically the large recess is obviously for the Plasma. At the moment I am looking at a Panasonic PWD8 42".

The smaller recess is basically a display fireplace. I want to put one of those gel fire bowls in there. The 3 downlights are simply a feature.

All the lights are hooked up to a the double touch plate dimmer with remote control.

With regards to the rest of the kit I am looking at a great hifi rack to go in the corner where my old tv is now. I am looking for all kit and cables to be hidden away to give the sleek look.

I also have a set of blue led's to hook up behind the screen to fill the recess with a blue glow.

Plasterer is booked for sat so more pics coming at the weekend!

Although progress will have to go on hold as I am off to the superbikes this weekend!

It's a hard life . . .

It looks greeeeeaaat. And from my point of view it was posted at the right time - I'm also planning something similar. I currently have a brick fireplace which is being extended out by 20cm in a similar way to your structure.

I'm also extending the recess below the plasma area which will house the amp and dvd etc. Luckily for me my wife doesn't want a fireplace feature.

I'm also looking at buying the Panasonic PWD8 42" and I'm going down to Kent home cinema on Tuesday for a demo. How deep is the recess for the Plasma? Have you considered the size of the wall mount?

I'm not a handy man so I've ask a local carpenter to provide a quote for the work. Hopefully I will get this on Monday and start the work within 3 weeks.

Look forward to seeing the end results. I will also provide some before - during and after photos for the fourm members.

Plasterer has been this morning!

Top job! This guy spent 4 hours smoothing it again and again! It's like glass now!

I'll keep you posted when I get the coving up and all painted!

wow, how much did the plaster charge to do that? (if you don't mind asking that is)

when i do my wall mount i need some plastering doing - it will help me build up my budget

If you don’t mind me asking how are you going to wire the set-up, I can’t see any provisions for wire ways through the plaster? Are you going to drill through to the void at a later date?

£100 including the supply of the angle bead and final prep!

This is the clever bit!

See the bottom left corner of the new wall in this picture . .

I have left a opening in the bottom of the wall that I can put my hand in to plug in the screen to the power sockets.

In addition I have chanelled the original plaster wall behind the wooden frame.

The cables to the screen can then be fed behind the skirting to the corner of the room where the new av cabinet will sit.

A removable panel of skirting will then sit in front of the access hole in the wall.

Worth planning all this in advance before starting construction!

That is amazing, I can't wait to see the pictures of it finished. I was just reading in another thread about needing room for the screen to breath etc, something I hadn't thought of before. Given my projector is getting on my nerves of late (screen door effect appearing out of nowhere), I think a plasma is on the cards at some point, though it won't be anything as amazing as your setup.

By the time the 42 inch Plasma is up there should be about a 8 inch gap all the way round. Plenty of room for air circulation and to pop in the front speakers if so desired!

I am in the middle of whacking up all the coving this afternoon.

it would be great to see more pics mate - i've been following this, it almost feels like i'm building the thing I've been so engrossed !

I've got my own baby to wall mount in a few weeks time - this can become my adopted baby in the meantime !

Not the easiest thing to do in the world and you soon find out just how far out all the walls are in your new house!

Next step is a good rub down (that's the walls guys . . . ) then lots and lots of paint! well thats the plan anyway.

Finally . . . .

Firstly a big big thankyou to Chris & Alistair @ AV-Sales who I must say were a pleasure to deal with. Kit ordered at 14:30pm on Friday. Delivery of all kit was 8:45am Monday! What service!

So the Panny 42" arrived with the amp etc.

Still waiting on my Canton CD'50's which Jake has promised should be here by the end of the week. It's all hooked up but no sound . . . .

As soon as I get some sound I will put the final project post up . . . .

What can I say, great job, can I ask a quick question, the back lighting behind the plasma, what is it, where did you get it and how is it wired and controlled? as the previous pictures dont show any wireing.

Lighting is 4 LED strips from Ikea called Tretion I think.

As you can see in the attached there are two hard wired power sockets for the plasma and the second is linked to the switch in the second picture.

This enables me to turn the blue leds on and off at the flick of a switch!

Thanks for that, I will be off to Ikea this evening, I have been looking for something similar for ages, and too think Ikea is only five mins down the road, typical!!!!

The work on my plasma wall starts this week - I've done a majority of the donkey work myself but the plasterer will finish the job to a professional standard like yours.

I will start to post my 'plasma wall' project once I've finished this post.

I've also had a good experience with AV Sales thanks to Hayes and Ben and my Plasma should arrive late this week or early next week.

Can I ask what size and type of bolts did you use for mounting the Plasma bracket?

As you can see from the attached pic i bolted 5 4x2 studs to the original wall. These are attached with 6 6" brick wall bolts through the original plasterboard and then in to the brick wall.

When finished these studs are hidden behind the new plasterboard. I then used M8 Coach Bolts to bolt the bracket to these studs. Maybe a little over the top but trust me this screen is not going anywhere . . . .

Thanks. At this stage I had not yet put the cables in. I simply drilled the correct size hole behind the screen bracket and fed the cables down the void. Then they popped out at the bottom in my secret opening behind the skitrting. Now all cables hidden!

Will get a post up later today to show it 100% finished!
