Thanks neilbutler!
That was a big issue when I was refurbishing this room. I did not know how it would "sound"....
The result is quite good. In fact, last May, a journalist came to visit and wrote an article (published in the September issue of Les Annes Laser, French HC magazine) and said that he was surprised by the "normal" sound he heard, despite all these rocks.....
Some explanations : The amplifier with its YPAO system, the carpet at the front, all the side walls are glued with some acoustic stuff ( I do not know the right word for that!)

Hi Fred, looks great! Tell me, what sort of seats are those, and where did you get them?

Thanks,
Ben.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for your message.
I bought them from a guy in France who is refurbishing some cinemas and resell the seats which are being replaced. I got the 3 seats in excellent shape for a bit more than 150 euros. Good value for money! I do not the exact reference.
Take care
Fred

great room

Great room

wish I had a cellar with arch ceiling !!!

As to the acoustics...I noticed recently wile drinking in a bar cellar of similar shape that the acoustics were very neutral, no 'cave' type echo etc.

this is prob due to the uneven brick roof dispersing the sound and the solid nature of walls and ceiling absorbing sound.

all makes for an ideal cinema room

l'll start digging at the weekend

the sound in the room is likely not being absorbed by the walls and ceilings, the sound is being diffused by the shape and height of the ceiling, rough nature of the brickwork will help a little, though the maximum absorption of brick is around 0.02 and concrete 0.29, so i dont think thats having very much effect.
