Hi everyone. Dont know if anyone remembers my stage by stage building a home cinema room from last year ?? Here is a link to the old thread ...

(Started to build a home cinema room (pics inside))

Well to cut a long story short about 2 months after finishing the room the wife tells me she wants to move house ARGHHHHHHHH!!!! etc. Well here I am about a year or so later with a new house and new room to start. Will be the same deal as last time most of the same gear too apart from the roof mount. Going to put all the av stuff in small cupboard and feed all wires into roof and down into cupboard. Oh and have a real screen this time no Ikea blind for me. Right better go take some before pics.

Oh before I start here are a few pics of the old room.

Good luck grant i hope you secured some additional funds for your new and improved room

the better half must concede to this if she wants the move

. I am in a similar position only my room took 9 months to construct, i ain't giving it up without some benefit for my cinema if we move after all i am perfectly happy where we live now

Right spent half the day taking six ton of junk out the room. My new roof mount came as well. Seems very well made and worth the cash. Next I need to strip the wall paper, Sand the walls smooth and get that old carpet up. Rip up the skirting boards and start putting all the wires down.

Not getting much of a chance to get stuck into the room since the wife has me fitting a new bathroom Arghhhhhhh !! Hope to get a lot done over the weekend. I did get my 5 meter component cable this morning. More pics coming soon.......I hope.

Oh and one more thing in my last room I put down carpet but it made it realy hard to move my two lazyboy chairs (very heavy) So I thought I would put down laminated flooring. Would this affect the sound at all ??

It could do, you could always put a rug down or if you have other soft furnishings then this may help with the sound. If the laminate is down and there is a slight echo then you will need to add some soft furnishings.

Good idea mate. Thanks for that. I will have a large space between the chairs and screen so a nice rug would fit a treat. Off to Ikea then at the weekend. That will keep the wife happy.

Ahhh that pic of the Vogals mount all in peices brings back memories

I have a laminated floor in my room and I set up all the HC kit before we got any furniture of curtains etc. in and it sounded quite bright and harsh. As soon as the sofa's and a large rug along with the curtains and other stuff were put in I recalibrated it all and it sounded much better.

Thanks for all the tips chaps. That's all the old wall paper and carpet gone. Going to sand the walls and paint them tomorrow. Will try and post a few new pics.

Well walls are done. Just started to paint them. Going with a dark matt green for a change. Looks rather cool. Right better get back to it.

Well I have ran out of paint so I thought I would put up the Screen to kill some time. had to put wood strips up in the loft to screw up into to take the screen.

Well finished all the painting. Then had to go over all the walls and fill in all the little holes and marks. Let dry then sand and repaint.

Being a old house all the power sockets stick about 2" out the wall so I changed them to flush.

Removed door from cupboard and used chissel to remove excess wood. Going to use this for all the av stuff.

Think that will do for tonight. Its my birthday tomorrow so I might take the day off.

Will do mate. Hope to get a fair bit done over the weekend. At least get the projector on the roof and the speaker cables under the floorboards.

Well since I am ripping out my bathroom and doing the cinema room is getting hard to split the time.

Anyway I got blackout blinds up. Also pulled up a good few floor boards and got all the cables cut to length. (still to run them to the AV cupboard.

I took a spure off a socket in the bathroom below and put power into the AV cupboard.
Put 2" by 2" up into the loft to take the projector. Got it fitted and ran all the cables.

Going to fit flooring tomorrow and workout shelfing for cupboard.

Right been a good day today. Got all the cables ran under the floor boards. What a nightmare. Was at it for ages.

Then got the mate next door to give me a hand to put down the flooring. He is a expert at it and made a amazing job. Just got to touch up the paint and fire on beading and then it on to the cupboard. Fire up a few shelfs and start to fill it up with all my junk.

Mate putting floor down.

P.S. I seem to have a few bits of dust on the old camera. Will try and fix for next pics.

That is really coming along now Grant...just wait till you are in there with all those movie figures

I had the same problems with dust inside my camera after laying the floor...must be a design flaw with the flooring

Got a good bit done tonight. Floor is finished put up a new light and a crome vent cover. Just need to bring to sent up the av/speaker's and them its fill the room with crap time.

Well since the weekend I have set up the front and side speakers and brought throught some of my dvds. Need to work out what memorabilia is going to go in the room. Would post more pics but I need to get a new set of batteries for the camera. Not been near a shop in days. Will go have a look around see if I can find any with some juise left in them.

Right I nicked the batteries out my new talking darth vader mask. ( Prezzie from the wife) So I got a few pics. This is just me trying out different stuff trying to find a look I like. Get the feeling it will all change.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Still got a fair bit to do. Going to add a few shelfs on one wall, got to reverse the door into the room as it hits the chairs. Need to wall mount the back speakers then set up all the av stuff. right now all I get is a picture.

Right done a few things to the room. Set up a few shelfs. Put up the back speakers (Pics to follow) Patched up some paint and added a few little lights.

Looking good Grant, however the thought of being a guest in your house and walking in to that Predator head in the middle of the night gives me the Heebie Jeebies

You have a lot of hard surfaces though in a relatively small room, how do you find the acoustics? After years of my wife moaning for a wooden floor (which I installed 2 years ago) She now wants to go back to carpet (purely a 'design look' she has no idea about acoustics

) Apart from the work involved, carpet is far more preferable in my opinion.

Well I was thinking about buying a large thick rug to cover about half the wood floor. Only watched one movie so far (The Fly new version) But it was late and its a old movie. Think I will have to run a few more tests. Ohh and the cabnet the sub is in will need to be looked at since it make a lot of noise when I was running a test.

A rug should do the trick on the acoustics.
