The 'upstairs' project

The upstairs project is all about converting one room - the upstairs into a fully function av room with an second part being for a computer area. The two spaces are divided by an stair case.

I have placed all the pictures and text on my site as this is easis for me (saves me updating all the text from different places and uploading pictures all over the place).

I do also have a function on my site to leave comments (bottom of page 1) if you dont want to leave them here, however you must register/login for that on my site.

Some people may work out what speakers I have by the design on page 1

Visit:
My site - Upstairs (direct link) or
My Site - Index (main page of my site)

It's looking good so far - any reason why you've gone for wooden flooring rather than carpet as I would have thought you'd get more noise transmission downstairs as people walk across the floor.

well at the time of deciding there was the side that carpet would be better for sound however lamiette floor looked better, easier to clean, cheaper and easier to get.

hopefully now the transmission of people walking above should be a lot better - if not none. Before the ply sheets was used on the floor with an carpet above. The ply is now on the walls now and the floor as a lot of fibre glass in it, with floorboards. Above that are sound deading tiles, and then above that is the lamiatte floor.

The new page 5 contains information on how some speaker plates where home made. Im pleased with the results and they cost a lot less than ive seen them around at shops.

..Good looking project!

Have you fired up the electronics yet?

I would be interested on what you think of the acoustics.

I would put money on you making up some acoustic wall panels as you are likley to be hit by some pretty severe reflections, especially with a hard floor surface. Are you going to have a rug on the floor?

yea all the eletronics is on and working, as im using the pc there to write this. The sound is great, there is an big green carpet at the front (i think you can just see it in the pictures on the site). as for echo, there isnt any really, i think as its an werid shape room it helps with that.

I guess the picture are working fine for you, so im not sure why 'homethx' cant see them.

well i dont think there is much need for acoustic treatments. The room is an werid shape anyway, and doesnt have all that ceiling space you waste with an normal square room. Plus the room isnt the standard sqaure shape
