Finally getting round to doing a dedicated room but need some advice wrt the lighting.

I intend putting 6 or 8 downlighters in the ceiling and want these to be worked off a remote dimmer so basically i'm looking for some recommendations please.

B&Q have some nice ones - I use one and it works with any spare remote button.
They have both one and two channels in numerous finishes (white, aluminium, bronze chrome etc.) from £15-£30. I think they're rated to 400w.

PS Be aware that some low voltage spots don't dim.

I got mine from TLC Direct - works really well, looks good and didn't break the bank. And yeah - make sure the spots actually say 'dimmable' on the box, or you're screwed.

They look like the ones I bought from B&Q and are possibly cheaper...

TLC are cheaper for varilight but if doing a proper job look at Lutrom telume and Futronix (or Helvar Digidim4 superb but expensive)

Do the TLC dimmers (and other cheapish versions) just dim when you hold the button down or can you program them to dim at a specific rate ? Or is this where the expensive jobbies come in ? Haven't thought about lighting in my room yet - other than I probably need some

when you press and hold the remote button they just go from off to fully on and then back down again. If you stop part way and press and hold it again then it'll go in the opposite direction. If you press and release it either turns on (to the last level it was left at prior to switching it off) or off.

It's cheap and cheerful and does the job.
