That is VERY close to where I am RedBull, sneaked in there with my SLR a few times....
Today was a great day, all the glass arrived without issues and we have all the frames mounted, glass will be put in in the morning. I was very reluctant to shell out how much I did on these doors and windows, I could have bought myself a nice Rolex for what they cost - however, having them in situ now I don't regret it for a second. They ooze quality, and the mechanism for the bifolds is buttery smooth, really is.

The hall / stairs have also been carpeted today.

And I started to try and make sense of my snakes wedding of an av cupboard!

Will get some more pics up tmrw guys, thanks for the well wishes and comments!

Morning all, no baby yet so progress has been rapid. The glass went in without any issues and there really isn't that much left to do now. The rendering is the biggest remaining job but that's weather dependant and it's not great at the moment.
Tilers have been back to tile the outdoor step down to the decking

Kitchen worktops have been templated and will be going in today :-) can't wait for that!
Here's a few panoramas to give you in idea of where we are ( still need to build a frame around the fridge / oven)

This looks superb, can't wait to see the finished build. What type of work tops are you putting in?
Congrats on the baby too,
Cheers Chris.

never mind worktops, has the missus dropped the bairn yet?

joking aside, your build is VERY inspirational and goes to show that all the grief is worth it in the end.

thanks for all the posts, pics ... looking forward to the video walkaround. Can you do a good impression of Kevin McLoud?

Looking sweet dude, been following since day one!

A question, how do you keep quality over such long lengths of cable?

I don't think any of my cable runs are too long, longest hdmi is 5m. Suppose we'll find out when I fire it all up today :-D...

Tonight is the first night I'm actually relaxing in my own lounge with a beer, that's what I'm doing as I write this and boy does it feel good. It was all worth it!!!!!
Still a few things to tidy up and sadly I haven't had the time to wire in the surround speakers, but I will tmrw morning. Here's a few pics, going to do some proper shots with my SLR next week.

Absolutely fabulous. Was hoping your baby would arrive today. He / she would share the birthday with my wife.
Am going to embark on my own build shortly. Expecting to get the house keys next week. Would really like to know how the LED's perform in everyday use. I want to use LED's for the living, dining room and kitchen. Any feedback from you will be appreciated.

All the best for the new arrival

Thanks mate, appreciate it.
Some of the LEDs are great, you really would think they were normal bulbs, the Philips Zadora ones especially.
The screwfix ones aren't great, too bluey for my liking and not bright enough - its the age old thing about getting what you pay for the Zadora were £30 each, the others were £15 I think.
I'll get some proper pics for you if I can tonight.

I bought mine from downlights direct, no complaints.
Well, still no baby! So I've managed to have a well earned rest from DIY and have spent the weekend fiddling with my av gear! Needless to say I'm very very pleased, I've never had 5.1 before so to me the kefs sound incredible to my layman ears! Watched a few films last night and plan to do a few more today :-)
Here's a few more 'lived in' pics, I promise I'll get my good camera out this week and do a full house set.

My 'man cave' as the mrs refers to it! Full of networking, av gear ,wiskey and cigars - doesn't get much sweeter than that in my humble opinion.

Think someone asked for a close up of the rads a couple of pages ago

Hi been following your build from start to finish and cant tell you how impressed I am by your efforts.Your place looks really lovely, really nice to bring the new baby home to. Doing a full time job and doing all that work is a great effort.

Your place looks a very similar size to mine and I`m now inspired to get moving on an extension on mine, the only thing holding me back is the current financial climate. My work has been a bit slow recently and we are a little cautious about taking out a large loan for the work to be done.

Will be posting a thread later in the year and hopefully it will look half as good as yours

Thanks for the comments matey, appreciate you taking the time to post them. It was a gamble for us too, and I won't know if it's paid off until I get the place revalued...fingers crossed!
I totted everything up the other day, and the lot ( literally the lot, from tools to furnishing the whole house, av building work ALL of it) has come in at 63k, which I really don't think is bad value for money at all.

haha, love the pic - that'll be me once I'm done.

Like the comment about chillin' with the beer. Hopefully, you'll be 'wetting the baby's head' shortly. Good Luck with everything.

Looks great Jimbo. Good work.

Think we will go for some doors like yours off our dining room, look SO MUCH better than 2 openers to either side.

Rick.

Thanks Geezer!
Grinning even more now that I've settled and the interior is finished other than glossing the woodwork!
The kitchen was finished today, still needed the frame building for the oven and fridge and I think it looks great now, finishes it off nicely.
Just the rendering to do outside now, waiting for a dry spell - could be a while round these parts!

Missed this thread....but what a delight. Probably exactly the type of extension I would go for myself...but that dark brick works an absolute treat. The embedded oven/fridge is perfect too.
I'll go back to the start and have a mooch.
Excellent build there.

PS: Those griddles make a right old mess...but make wicked food!

^^ Just headed to the first page and I do recall looking at this a while back...it's threads like this that make these forums an inspiration - I know I would've never bothered to attempt refurbs without the 'wings' these boards provide. Congrats.
