| Problems with bass and the parents
Hiya, woundering wheather anyone can help me with some soundproofing issues.
First off, I have searched bacl through the forums and have gone through all the soundproofing posts, but not found any solutions relevant to my situation and budget.
Now the problem, I have a set of Logitech Z-680 5.1 speakers set up in my bedroom, I am using then mostly for listening to music and dvd's through my computer. So nowhere near a pro system with house shattering bass.
Even though these are a budget speaker set they are thx certified, so do offer good sound quality, to me anyway for the money. However, with the bass set at the standard level I cannot turn them up more than vol1.5 without getting complaints from downstairs. I have to turn the base off completly to stop the nagging, leaving the sound in my room somewhat lacking.
It's also particularly anoying when you watching a dvd and turn it up so the speech is at a nice listening level then all of a sudden some music kicks in or an explosion and you get the shout from downstairs and have to turn it down then cannot hear what is being said in the film.
So what are my options to reduce the bass?
I can not afford to, or have the room to build a partition inside my room. My room size is about 7ftx14. The front wall is brick, with my mum and dads room on the other side. The right wall again is brick with the neighbours on the other side, the rear is the back of the house so not to botherd about that, and the left wall is a stud, with no insulation (told my dad to fill it before he borded the other side), on the other side of the left wall is the bathroom, which is 100% tiled, with laminate floor so you can really hear the bass in there.
My joice in my room need replacing as they have started to rot where they ran under into the bathroom, under the old bath. So the floor will have to come up, so I can get some insulation put down then, to try and stop the bass going downstairs. Is there anything else I can do to soundproof the floor cheaply?
Now the walls how can I stop the bass from going through them, mainly the bathroom wall. I doubt taking my side down and filling it with insulation is an option as then I'd have to buy more plasterboard, then get my dad to plaster it again, which he won't be to happy with. Is there any products I can glue onto the existing wall to add mass? I looked at foam but found out that is more for altering the dynamics, not reducing sound.
Any advice apreciated, product recomendations ect
