MEMBRANE IS HERE!!!

Even though I knew the dimensions I didn't imagine they'd be this big!

2m x 20m per roll.

Replaced majority of the rotten joists now and formed a landing for the bottom of the spiral stairs.

Hopefully get some more pictures for you all by the weekend

B****y hell, I thought I'd done a lot of work on my project, but this is a Big One !!!

I'll be watching this with interest, even though I've just about finished mine.

Well done, keep up the good (hard) work

One point regarding fire doors..... They do not need to be self closing (I say this as previous replies talked about door stops)

I think old regulations wanted self closing mechs on the doors, now not needed.

I've just had a loft converted, and had to change all my doors...

I mentioned in a previous meeting with someone at building they said that as long as I have a fire door separating the top and bottom floors then I shouldn't need fire doors anywhere else. He said "You must have caught him in a good mood".

Apart from that everything seemed quite positive. After he left I could here my cat meowing like crazy. I thought she must have been trapped somewhere out back. Turns out she was stuck up a tree and couldn't get down.

Luckily I still had the floor boards that I'd taken up so I thought I'd prop one against the tree and she could climb down it. So I picked u this floor board and walked towards the tree........then fell down the hill onto my ass! haha.

Cats are indeed fools!

Here are three places our Kitten (well 6 months old now) has been that he really shouldn't be in the last two weeks.

1. Ironing board

2. Top of freezer

3. Loft

I only went to the loft to get some tools, when he appeared at the hatch, the little sod, he moves up the ladder soooo quick!

If we had a tree he'd be up it!

My cat calmed down after about a year, but she's still mental at night!

A few pictures:

Cutting out a section of the front room to run the waste pipe and for the membrane

I did a bit of smashing and digging tonight

New joists for the spiral staircase landing

Rotten joists replaced

Thats all for now. I should have some new updates this week once the new window goes in.

I'm pretty lucky. In my hungover state my 2 friends pretty much laid the floor boards in the whole upper level.

New window at the front of the house that lets a lot of light into the upper level with is a nice change from it being pitch black

These 2 doorways will be increased in size by the end of today. So no more scraping my knuckles on the walls when I'm coming through with the wheelbarrow!

Finally got brave enough to take the DSLR down there. Few pictures of the widened door frames. Seems a shame to put a door on there so I'm going to see if I can get away with not having one.

Damp proofing next and then its the fun stuff!! Picking up a 47" LED Samsung TV tomorrow.

Does anyone know of any 1080p projectors that are compatible with Optimas 3D box?

Sorry about the lack of updates lately! Things have been hectic with life at the moment.

A few updates:

Starting to cut out the concrete to get to the existing waste pipe

Waste connected for the conversion and inspection cover installed

Channel dug out for the waste

Started to membrane the back rooms

Wow, what a job!

I would have run to the moon just looking at all that stuff you had to get rid of...

You've really worked like a trojan and your friends too. I can't wait to see the finished result.

Just think how fit you're going to be (with all that running up and down stairs)
hehe, save you a fortune....

Thanks I got to the gym a fair bit, but all this digging has killed me!!

Waste is connected and run to the very back now.

I've bought the toilet and sink (as well as a fancy tap). The whole back area's walls have DPM on them now. FINALLY!

Hopefully bricking up the garage door next and installing a window and door there.

Almost finished damp proofing all the back rooms and levels:

Chanel round the front room cut out.

Side wall membraned. Would have done the rest of it, but I've got to get the builder to cut out a hole in the back wall for the projector.

Waste pipe signed off and covered:

Picture from the back room looking out.

Got my very own indoor beach

The start of my indoor swimming pool (not really).

Front is membraned now

GOOD NEWS! Building control signed off all the damn proofing. Concrete flooring gets poured this week and the front window and door go in next week.

Looking good.

I've got a cellar that is quite humid. I'm a keen home brewer though so it suits me fine. A small dehumidifier and condensate pump keeps it around 50% humidity. Its tanked with slurry which is fine for what I'm using it for but I'd never use slurry in a habitable room as I can see its flaws.

I do have another cellar which extends out under the garden which was blocked up some years ago and I can't wait to see how big it is (after I get through all the other house jobs). I'm hoping to tank it out with a membrane system.

What sort of cost did the membrane system come too and what sump system are you using?

Thanks

I'm using Platon p5 membrane at £126.50 a 20m roll. I've used 4 rolls for the 3 rooms. I actually decided against a sump pump as there isn't a lot of water coming in and most of the garage is above ground level so I've opted for a soak away after speaking to my builder and the guy from building control.

I'd love to have a look at your cellar, make sure you post some pictures

Sounds like a good plan if your only having slight issue with damp.

Just moved into this house about 4 months ago so still a lot to do to tidy it up.
I plan to make it look a lot nicer and make a wooden surround for the dehumidifier and lots of wine racking. I've also fitted a condensate pump which pumps the waste water from the dehumidifier to the outside drain (saves having to empty the tank).

Entrance

Ye olde steps

Well trodden!

Behind this timber clad frame is a blocked up doorway, a nice stone arch surrounds the door. I have it on good authority that the cellar was twice its current size and the rest is hiding through the blocked up doorway! It leads under our garden! Can't wait to open it up one day.... Although as you can well imagine SWMBO has a number of other quite involved household jobs before I get the go ahead to start knocking walls down :-(

You can see the wear on the path into it so it must of been pretty heavily used (looks like a valley shape)

Sounds like the stuff your using will be just what I need though.

How deep is your soakaway?

WOW! That is really interesting!! Get it opened up! I'm excited to see whats behind it

My soak away is around 20 inches deep and has done the job for about 7 months now.
