TV Aerial Problem

So here is the problem.

I live in Northern Ireland close to the border and I can see the transmission masts for BBC and RTE.

BBC transmits vertically polarised in the channel range 40 to 50. RTE transmits horizontally polarised in the channel range 20 to 30.

I have 2 loft aerials which when used independently give good reception. However, when I combine them I loose a lot of clarity on BBC channels. I have used inductive combiners and the other ones which are channel sensitive. Both give the same problem.

It is driving me mad

Anybody got any thoughts?
