Hi,
I am planning to wall mount my speakers, but I cant replaster the wall to hide the cable.
Anybody have any suggestions ?
I also wondered how high I should mount the speakers in a 5.1 configuration ?

Mini trunking will probably be your best bet them. It can be painted up to wall colour also.

As for heights:

Front 3 at ear level when comfortabley sitting in your viewign position. If that means your centre speaker will be in the middle of your screen/tv, then either go just above or below the screen, but try to keep the speakers all on the same plane.

Rears, about 1-2 feet above ear level when sitting. Just behind the seating position on the sides walls, ideally. Try a few places to see what sounds best to you.

i did a pretty good job of this which is simple and effective and easy to remove. If your wall is painted pin the cables flat to the wall and cover with a medium to wide single piece of white masking tape the whole length the cable is attached to the wall.
paint the masking tape twice with the same colour as the wall. It is very effective and is easy to remove if needed

I will be doing the same but im going to go up into the loft, through the loft and then down my other wall.

This may sound stupid but do rear speakers go behind you or either side of you?

Conventional surrounds in a 5.1 setup are meant to go on the side walls behind your listening position. Though final placement is all down to personnal taste.

If you are running a 6.1/7.1 system then the rear surround/s go on the back wall.

There are some websites around that show the exact ideal angles to put them at relative to your viewing position, but i'm not sure of the adress for any of them.

Instead of mucking about with masking tape
Why not just use one of the multitude of virtually flat solid core cables around?

These can be painted or if you use a textured paint.. just painted over twice to hide them.

How do these flat cables compare to the likes of QED Silver, cable talk etc...
Have you been able to compare ?

Err, sticking the cable to the wall can be done in about 3 seconds.
Some are even self adhesive

As for what they 'sound' like.... they are made of copper.
You would make a more drastic difference to the overall sound of your room by moving a sofa around than you would get from the difference between a solid core flat copper cable and Silver Anniversary.

nuffink wrong wiv masking tape mate, cheap n chearful and if it all goes t*ts up , easy to remove!!!

qed do a flat version of their cables check there site
There is even profile silver a fairly flat silver - biwire version.

Nothing wrong with it apart from the fact that you would have masking tape stuck to your walls!

When painted, it will lose it's stickyness and peel away from the wall.

mine hasn't lost its stickyness , u r only painting the surface and it blends in real nice. Been up about 3 weeks no problems.

Anyhow just a cheap and effective solution if you do not want to chase the cables into the wall.

Do as you wish, just sharing a solution that worked well for me

I used the trunking which was first suggested, sits flush with my coving and when painted it's hardly visible, it's also self adhesive so extremely easy to put in place, can be obtained from any good diy store for around £5 per 2m. Much better than masking tape!!
