DIY power lead - good idea?

Hi,

Basically i am in the process of wall mounting my tv, unfortunately the power lead supplied is not long enough.

I was going to buy a new longer "iec power cable" about 5 meters.

Then i thought i can just extend it myself with some connector blocks, ensuring the cable used is of a similar rating.

Is this a good idea?, would you recommend i don't do this?, will there be any adverse affects?, or is there no reason why i can not do this.

Thanks
Sid

Re: DIY power lead - good idea?

Hi,
There is no problem doing that at all, it's exactly what I have done.
I used a 13 amp rated terminal connector like the pic below ( get them from b&q).
Also, like you said get some equivalent rated cable and your good to go.
Just remember to check the fuse that came with the original plug and use the same as some tv's can be 13 amp and some i have seen less.

Thanks RJay. Good idea about checking the fuse rating, sometimes you can assume too much.

I just needed a 2nd opinion for reassurance.
