How to remove adhesive trunking from a wall

I am just about to move out of a house and need to remove about 4 metres of self-adhesive trunking that I had used to hide cables for my wall mounted TV and speakers.

My only thoughts so far are to start with a hairdryer (to soften the adhesive) then use cotton thread to "cut" through the adhesive layer and finish of with some solvent (eg white spirits).

I could just try yanking it of the wall but dont want to risk large anounts of paint and plaster coming with it.

I know that I will have to do some repainting afterwards - just want to keep it to a minimum of sanding and painting - definately no plastering.

All sugestions gratefully received

I think the approach you have already suggested would be my favoured method, maybe use fine nylon fishing line instead of cotton though

Re: How to remove adhesive trunking from a wall

I'm a sparky and bloody hate people who use sticky back trunking I found the least destructive way to remove it is to use a wallpaper scraper or similar object and ram it between trunking and wall whilst gently peeling the trunking off... I've been able to get the trunking off with no damage this way, but sometimes it's just all a bit hit and miss...

good luck

er... Why do you need to remove it? I know it's a stupid question but does it state in some kind of document etc... that you need to remove it?

Hi all,

To get rid of sticky bits glue and lots of other stuff you need to get 'Sticky Stuff' remover I've used it for years great for those labels on glass aswell that you can never get off.
It's now available in BQ in the cleaning ailse. Not expensive.

Happy AVing

Re: How to remove adhesive trunking from a wall

OP could be in rented accommodation and may have to remove it? The OP has asked how to remove it- not whether he should. Posts like just leave it- contribute nothing of value to the thread.

I've always just used a wall paper scraper and a lot of patience. Unfortunately you don't always get brilliant results.
