Final check cabling conundrum

Ok, im about to put the floorboards back down in the lounge and everything is in place, but before I do that I want to make sure I dont need to take them up again.

Currently I have the TV on one wall on its own, with cabling in trunking in the wall with a brush plate.

All the cables run to the 'box' cupboard, which contains a Sky+ box, and the all in one surround sound amp box.

This is whats cabled in.

1 HDMI cable - TV to all in one
1 Scart cable - TV to Sky+

2 Spare HDMI (1 for Sky HD, 1 spare)
1 2RCA Phono cable (Which im not sure im going to use it for if anything now )

1 Ethernet Cable from router to TV
1 Ethernet cable from router to 'cupboard'

Now its possible that at some point down the line I might get a
Wii, xbox or/and media center.

The xbox and media center should be ok with the spare HDMI to the TV.
But the Wii needs a component cable, which they dont do an official one at 10m. So will probably put in a standard component cable, and use a coupler to attach it to the official nintendo one.

But should I put anything else in between TV and cupboard, once the floorboards go down I dont want to have to get them up again!

Anyone spot a floor in the plan?

Don't forget power!

A bit more obscure but if you want to plug your laptop in, maybe you might need S-Video or VGA? S-Video can be handy for a few older odds and ends actually.

Powers in the wall behind the TV, I had had a new ring put into the lounge. There are 6 sockets in the 'cupboard' too.

Yeah I was wondering about using my laptop for Iplayer and stuff, and if I get a media center it might need something else too. ahh so much to think about!

OK any final thoughts? What about game consoles? I presume Xbox and Playstation can handle HDMI or similar? I know the wii requires some weird custom cable which I am going to have to look in, should I post in the consoles thread or is that double posting?

Not an expert, but why not put a few more cat5/6 cables, these could be used for any type of signal with the right bit of kit each end. More expensive in the long run I expect, but for a small initial cost...future proofed (as much as you can!)

Just my non expert view!

Both Xbox and PS3 use HDMI and a media PC should also output over HDMI.

Re: Final check cabling conundrum

Glad to hear they use HDMI, as I will cable two spare in.

I have a 100m box of cat5E, so i will cut some lengths and include them too.

Will also throw in a VGA cable, maybe just that annoying wii cable now, although I cant find an extension long enough

Re: Final check cabling conundrum

I'd just put a component cable in. You could either use with couplers like you said above or maybe even use with an AV amp with component switching if you upgrade in the future.

Although if you do go with a seperate amp in the future you could go for one that will upconvert to HDMI. That'll only need a single HDMI to the TV making your spares redundant (Although I'd strongly recommend keeping them)
