I'm mounting my Sony 40" LCD in a false wall , similar to the false chimney breast that lots of guys on here do.

I'm planning on leaving a space around the outside of TV and i'm installing some LED backlighting but what I need to know is how much space is recommended/required around the TV?

well for me the starting point would be how much room you need to get the tv on to the bracket then add some extra just incase

The bracket i'm using is one which hinges out from the wall to mount the TV onto the bracket and then can be pushed back so that it sits back against the wall. So, i don't really "need" any room to get the TV onto the barcket as such.

I'm just wanting to know the recommended space around the TV to allow the heat generated to dissipate and to allow the backlighting to look good.

I've just asked the same question to Noodleman from Apollo lighting who is a forum member he said that a minimum of 2.5 centimetres.The bigger the gap the more light you will get and more effect the lights will have It's really down to personal preferences. I went for 3 inch in the end. Will post up some pics once i've stuck the TV up and i'm moved in.
