Unhappy Cables, Cables, Cables

Hi,

Before I start sorry if anyone has read this already (and thanks to those that replied) but I have decided to move this to here as I'm not getting any responses and I think this may be the right place for this question.

At the moment I'm only looking to run cables from outside dishes and telephone / modem point to a central area where the equipment will go. From this it will all be contected up, but I will be installed 2 inch pipe to allow all the equipment to be connected to the TV. So at this point I only need the cable to get to the main equipment area.

Therefore if you can confirm any of the below in regards to the correct cables going to these, please do, as your help will be greatly received.

SKY HD BOX
Dual core sky cable / tel line / power

AMP
power

DVD / PS3
cat 6 / power

XBOX
cat 6 / power

DREAMBOX
WF100 x 2 / cat 6 / power

Also is there any advantage over running 3 cat 6 cables to this area with 3 single face plates, or 1 cat 6 cable with a triple face plate?

Thank you for any advice.

Ben

Re: Cables, Cables, Cables

Hi,

As this has nearly 100 hits without a response, I'm a bit confused. I thought it was quite a straightforward questions and even with no tech knowledge I think I am right with my suggestions!!!! Although not 100%, that is why I have posted on here!

Someone must have run cables for all the below at some point............so prehaps you could just give me a thumbs up or down?

Thanks.

Re: Cables, Cables, Cables

Can't help with too much of it except for the Cat6 bit.

Run the 3 cables and look around the net and you will find faceplates to take all 3 modules. Cause one cable wouldn't be enough.

Looking at the rest of it though, looks about right unless your running speaker cables through the same pipe but guessing not.

Hi Ben,

Sorry, not much help, but have you tried this in the custom installers forum?

Thanks

Re: Cables, Cables, Cables

Hi Ben

Your questions are not totally clear to me.

For the first part, if you are asking "have I thought of all the cables for the boxes?" then you are missing all the AV connectors. If the AMP is an AVR then you would connect all the boxes to that AVR, then from there one connection, probably HDMI, to your TV, and the connections to the loudspeakers.

For the CAT6 cable question, I don't know what a "triple face plate" would be. However you could have one cable going to a small router that all of your boxes could connect to. Whether 3 separate cables is better depends on how much bandwidth you need now and in the future, and what other bottlenecks you may have, such as your internet connection.

Hope this helps

Re: Cables, Cables, Cables

Thanks for the replys, off to order the cables now!

With regards to the AV cables these will be run in pipes when I stud the chimney out, so can be done at a later date.

Thanks again.
