Greetings everyone. I'm confused about why everyone is smooth sanding their floating walls.

I'm in the US and have lived in over 15 different places. None of them that I can remember have had smooth walls, they're all skip trowel texture. Some people call this orange peel so you get the idea.

Anyway, I would like to use drywall with the standard skip trowel finish for my floating wall. It will be painted Chocolate Brown; the surrounding walls are a lighter shade of brown.

Is a skip trowel finish OK to use in my setup? Why or why not?

is it called skip towelled because thats where the trowel should be - in the skip

not heard this before, over here we go for smooth finish or a defined texture not orange peel effect as this just looks like a bad paint job

i would however use the 3D mdf with the routed texture

but your right mate, over here in blighty all the artexskip/trowel or whatever textured finish is slowly disappearing and we`re all going flat smooth.

So much cleaner finish imho.

Also the darker you go the more the image will stand out

but if you prefer a textured finish then go for it, whatever floats your boat

I couldnt be bothered with all that sanding & so I used a dark, thick, textured wallpaper on mine. Just an idea?

like i said if you go for texture go for a bigger 1 not orange peel

Couldn't agree more, currently suffering with woodchip here but landlord doing a major internal refurb next year and giving us smooth walls - when that is done here comes a floating wall!
