Best way to arrange furniture in this room?

Hi,
We're in the process of buying a house and as it's been progressing nicely I thought it was time I started thinking about arranging the living room and not worry about jinxing the move.

Compared to our existing living room there is more room, but it's not such a conventional space. The living room at the moment is arranged to have the sofas facing each other and they only have a small TV in the corner. I've mocked up some designs that show the space and some options, but none of them seem to be quite right. One of the main issues is that to the right of the images, through the large opening is the conservatory, and the door on the left leads to the hallway and to the front door, which is quite nice to be able to open the front door and have light streaming through the whole house and being able to see into the garden. If possible, I'd like to not disrupt this flow of light.

Also, there is currently a bookcase as indicated in the pictures, that has been attached to the wall, but it wouldn't kill me to lose it if it meant a more comfortable living room.

For me the 3rd pic is the best option, not ideal but the sofa to the left is out of the way when not in use and easy pulled across when needed.

And it gets rid of that awful dusty book case

1st pic for me. Both sofas are useable (though one is optimised for viewing). Would lose the book case though and replace with some other form of storage. I think the 3rd one looks a little odd with the sofa tucked out the way.

Re: Best way to arrange furniture in this room?

Thanks for your replies guys,
I think I'm going to go with a combination of bookcase and "reading" area (pic 3) depending on how it feels with the sofas in.

The actual sofas going in are not the ikea sofabeds pictured, they are leather and slightly less wide than a standard 2 seater, but deeper. It may mean positioning the centre of the viewing sofa slightly to the right of the screen, and toed in, to fit the other sofa to it's left.

I'll make sure to start a new thread once we move in!

Re: Best way to arrange furniture in this room?

Did you say that you have already ordered the sofa? You could maybe have some more flexibility with positioning if you had an L shaped arrangement which was not fixed. I think have the space for it. A mix of option 1 and 3 I think would work, but option 2 does not work at all IMHO. All are compromises of trying to achieve too much in the limited space. By that I mean, light, viewing, social, storage areas) all have competing requirements and vie for the limited wall space.

The sofas we own already, I just used one of the standard sofa shapes in SketchUp because I was too lazy to create my own.
