Alternative to white ceiling

We are about to start planning an overhaul of our living room to make it more PJ friendly and finally sort out the boxing for the screen as well as run coving to hide all cables.

The wife likes the idea of the screen wall being black which is great but whilst watching a film last night we both noticed that the main reflection from the screen was actually up onto the ceiling. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to reduce this. Is there such a thing as a non reflective paint apart from standard matt white. I've seen peoples setups where a makeshift tent is made of material in the viewing cone. We are looking into the possibility of installing dark cloth in a pattern across the bulk of the ceiling to make a feature and reduce the white area in front of the screen.

Anyone got any suggestions as at this rate the Wife will be painting the whole room black if she had her way

Re: Alternative to white ceiling

Hi Steve

first thing tell the missus to throw away the black paint immediatley as when you fire up the pj I promise you it will go a very nice shade of light grey.

If it doesn`t you can have my house

thats how confident I am mate in backing up what I say being true.

If you really want the batcave look and once again you can try other fabrics but theres only really one in the race and that is Devore velvet from Whaleys at Bradford.

If you take a look here and/or my blue thread its all in their mate

Maximising image contrast.

you`ll find in this thread also the people who have gone very expensive other fabrics who now wished they hadn`t

cheers Al
