Stadium Seating

I built a 12 inch platform for my stadium seating out of 2x6's. How would one suggest sound deading it or insulating it? Keep in mind this is in a basement where flooding may occur at some point. (Because it always does )

Should it even be insulated?

Re: Stadium Seating

Double line the inside of the platform with visqueen DPM barrier then fill it with sand. You might want to put a couple of pipe outlets at the bottom of the platform to allow it to drain in the event of a flood.

Re: Stadium Seating

Not a bad idea at all. Would the full plateform need to be filled or just the front wall facing the speakers?

Sand is cheap so depends on the strength of the supporting floor how much weight you can add. If it is concrete then I'd fill in the whole space as any gap is going to affect acoustics, especially bass at floor level as likely to be in the direct path of the subs. If you have a timber floor then you could go with a heavy foam block core and fill underneath, around and above it with sand.
