Getting my feet wet, darkjunky living room and computer room

Hi All,

I brought my first home 3 months ago and recently came here looking for advise on hdmi /cat5 cabling, but what I came away with was the AV-bug.. I'm now about to attempt to build a floating wall with a built in desk for my computer room as project to ease myself into DIY, then more onto building something similar in my living.

I have already started work on my computer room stripping the age old wallpaper and making myself a blank canvas here's a picture of most of my current equipment more pictures to follow.

Update, here is a roughly to scale image of how the computer will look, I'm thinking I will paint everything and then use black acrylic to finish off the top of the desk

I also got a second screen working in my kitchen off my HTPC in the livining room last night and plan on hiding all the wires tonight, I'll upload more pictures when I get home.

Re: Getting my feet wet, darkjunky living room and computer room

Porgress made in the kitchen, I mounted the screen on a standard tilt and turn wall mount and started work on hiding the wires, I plan on either chasing the wires into the wall or simply hidding them with ducting, but I think in the long run I want to chase them.

I drilled 2 holes one about 5m below the other and let the drill do the work, it gave me a nice sized hole after a bit of chiseling, the hole was big enough for a HDMI cable, power lead and more then enough space for a freesat lead & cat6 once I redo that cabling.

I thread the cables thru using bit from an old kite, it had a perfect real of thin string and long plastic rods that I could use to pass the cables thru with.

All hovered up and tidied up a bit and I think it's starting to look pretty good. I've damaged the wall a bit with the drill, since I wanted to get the hole so close to the corner by the time the drill bit was thru the otherside the actually drill was touching the wall but thankfully it's nothing serious and it right along the line I want to chase out anyways.

Now, is this the bit where everyone starts telling me that I've royally screwed this up?

Btw one last picture of the computer room space, it's moved along since this picture but here it is;
