veneer advice

I'm about to make a cabinet for myself using some MDF and cherry veneer. I've never used veneers before but I understand they can be a little tricky to put on right

Any tips?
Thanks

Assuming you don't have pressing facilities. For flat surface I'd say go for some glue-film. Set iron to silk setting and go over every section for 2-4 seconds.

For odd shapes it would probably have to be contact adhesive.

And be careful when applying stain, oil etc as these can affect the glue and cause your lovely veneer to lift.

Hope that helps.

You're right in that I don't have pressing facilities and so glue film sounds like a nice idea. Do you know where I can get some - I tried looking in the B&Q web site but they don't seem to sell it. Would it be a difficult thing to track down? Thanks

Taimur,
Have you looked into buying your MDF pre-veneered, it does not add much to the overall cost.

James Latham, http://www.lathamtimber.co.uk is one of the main MDF distributors in the UK and they will also provide a cutting service.

Thanks for the URL. I've already received my veneer from another place, but I shall definitely look into preveneered MDF next time I build a cabinet. Thanks for the link.
