Lack Hack

I'm looking for a TV bench on a budget. I saw this on the John Lewis website: Buy John Lewis Stowaway Long TV Unit online at JohnLewis.com
and it got me thinking would it be possible/easy to cobble together two Ikea Lack shelving units (IKEA | Storage furniture | Bookcases | LACK | Shelving unit). Just wondered if anybody else thought this was a good idea to try or not or whether I've just had too long a day at work(!)

Re: Lack Hack

this is exactly what I had in mind...
ikea hacker: hacking a two level lack media unit?

If anyone can pm or post with photos of their efforts in situ it would be much appreciated.

very nice, but isn't that getting into the realm of scratch build?
as for the rods, looks very much like threaded bar and a handfull of nuts. which i'm sure you could get from b&Q/homebase etc, or any ironmongers

Re: Lack Hack

If you do use threaded bar then as a finishing touch I would also get a length of chrome copper pipe to cover the bar with, from any plumbers merchants or maybe B&Q.

good call, but make it a tight fit or fill the gap or i can imagine some pretty nasty vibrations if the speakers are on there!
