TV entertainment system been built 55" gap for a 42" TV underneath that is a sperate 'shelf' which sits HTSS1300,SKY HD and PS3 - the gap arround each item is about 4" left and right and to the rear about 11" - but the PS3 is over heating and last night cracked a CD by overheating (googled).

I need to cool the air in and around, i was surprised at the amount of heat generated by all 3 items and its a concern.

From research this morning on Google the best idea upto now is to use some 12db PC fans - and hide them behind which will help generate an airflow while being discreet and quiet. However i am unsure on how to either connect these to a 13amp power supply (say a plug) and or to a usb device?

Good idea or does anyone have a better idea?

I use 12cm Akasa fans on my AV receiver and run them at 5V, no noise at a decent price

Saw them this morning, can i ask how you power them? Did you cut and connect it to an old usb cable or ?

The PS3 actually cracked a CD because of the heat!? That's worrying!

Then take a look at the pics at the start of the thread. He used AV Cooler 'plate' type things which he says does the job!

What i have done is bought a 18db ~PC (£5) fan from PCworld this morning and directly wired it to an old 12v power supply i had. Ive positioned it at the rear of the 3 devices so now its extracting air from below the surrounds and expelling the air past the 'inlets' of the devices, thus forcing cooler air from below to be sucked in.

Had the PS3 on for an hour and its alot cooler, so obviously i need to buy 3 or 4 more fans just because...

The fan works on a remote control - the ones you get from B&Q. running at 18db you cannot hear it at all which is a positive.

I'm in the lookout for dell PowerEdge fans, there circular in design and very very powerful, i'm thinking of having one as an inlet and one as an outlet on either side of the unit.

Edit@: forgot, the Fifa09 disc had a crack right in the centre point, it was not loading and when out to clean i noticed A the heat & 2 the hairline crack. After spending a few hours googling it is a known issue with a unit that overheats - 110'c and above.
