floating wall - what bits do i need

hi all

gonna build me a floating wall, just a couple of questions

what thickness mdf do u use 12mm or 18mm or thicker?

what size timber do u use 4" x 2" or 4" x 4"

lastly, what size screws and wall plugs to use for screwing the frame to the wall?

once answered i'll use this thread for a progress report on how its going

Re: floating wall - what bits do i need

Hi oops.
I'm currently building a floating wall & can tell you what I'm using, although I may not be doing it correctly .
I'm using 4x2 timber & 18mm MDF. the timber is attached to a studded plasterboard wall so am using cool corkscrew type plugs in the plasterboard where there is no stud. I'm using 10x2-1/2" (5x65mm) screws.
DON'T get your fixings from B&Q. I had to go there on sunday afternoon as nothing else was open. 25 screws & 20 fixings came to just under £10 .
Good luck

Re: floating wall - what bits do i need

I used 44x69mm on 33x69mm timber for the main frame and 18mm mdf which gives me the so much needed ~95mm clearance behind the cabinets for my HTPC.

Furthermore I mainly used the Toggler m6 ankers and for the horizontal subbeams the normal Toggler plugs...

And here's where I used those: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-...ting-wall.html
